It was nice to see 78019 for it's all but brief visit. Little indiscretions aside this is a really useful engine which would have been perfect on the valley had it stayed.
I assume it left in the early hours of Tueday morning as I noticed it's tender on a low loader at Kidderminster at 22.10 on Monday Evening with the loco infront?
Is it of to the West Somerset Railway Next?

Very Happy

In my view the most well proportioned of the Standard tender locos.

However, as a class 2 loco it is a little under powered for regular high season and weekend work on the Valley. Yes, it can handle 6/7 coach trains, as can 6443, but that extra effort comes at a price of wear and tear higher than it might me.

Class 4 & 5 are the best suited locos for the Valley, but it's also good to see some smaller engines used on off peak services.

46443 sometimes gets used on 8 coaches, and that really does struggle going up Highley bank!

78019 would be a much better engine if the zero were dropped from the middle! Laughing

Agree and it was a real shame that it and 46521 went elsewhere

Are there any figures on the relative running, maintenance and overhaul costs for locos. like 78019 or 46443 and 7802 or 7812 on similar duties?

I'm not surprised that it took you 2 days to come up with that one! Wink

Fowey! Drop the 8 and go for something grander than a manor.

Seriously though, neat little loco.

Thought you had invented a new expletive but then the penny dropped! Agree about the loco.
In reply to mrmover, it didn't take me two days to think that one up. That was the time it took me to pluck up the courage to post it! Laughing
