Although a shareholder, I haven’t been to one of the "Members and Shareholders" weekends before.

Does anyone know if I could take a guest along (a potential new share holder) or is it strictly members and shareholders only?

I ask here because I don’t know who to contact at the SVR – they don’t seem to list email addresses.

You can bring whoever you like, but please be aware that normal fares apply to your guests, in just the same way as to all the "ordinary" passengers we hope to have on the same day. Ordinary is the wrong word of course - everyone who supports our railway is special.

There should be quite a lot of steam to enjoy over the weekend too!

Thanks for your reply.

I actually asked the wrong question.

As a shareholder I’ve received a letter inviting me to “join the Directors and Management” at the Engine House at one of the following 4 times – Sat 13th at 14:00 or 15:30 or Sun 14th at 10:30 or 15:00. It was to one of these events I was wondering if I could bring a guest who is neither a member nor a shareholder.

Shares in Severn Valley Railway have gone on sale in a bid to provide investment in the 150-year-old line.

General manager Nick Ralls said shareholders would get discounts and a say in the running of the attraction.

The 16-mile heritage line follows the River Severn from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth, attracting about 200,000 visitors a year.

It is hoped the move will raise £3m towards project such as a new heritage and engineering training academy.

Severn Valley Railway also aims to refurbish the railway infrastructure and restore Bridgnorth station "to its Victorian glory".

The shares cost £1 each, with a minimum investment of £100.

Mr Ralls said: "The demands of operating a 150-year-old railway are considerable.

"We are committed to ensuring the infrastructure is properly maintained, that rolling stock is of a high standard and that visitors have the kind of facilities they expect."

Severn Valley Railway shares sale off to a strong start

Delighted Severn Valley Railway bosses were this afternoon celebrating the early success of its shares sell-off as they raised £130,000 in the first few hours of trading.

Railway chiefs said they had been inundated by interest in the shares which went on sale at 9am today. Bosses at the 16-mile line, which runs between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster, say the shares could bring in a whopping £3 million.

David Mee, SVR visitor services manager, said: “We have seen a tremendous amount of interest and we’ve been sending out a lot of information about the offer.

“A lot of people have also been requesting information from us and today we have received in excess of £130,000.

“The formal launch event is being held October 13 and 14, where visitors can join members and current shareholders to discuss the plans in more detail.”

The attraction is offering the chance to buy shares at a minimum investment of £100.

Shareholders will be given discounts and a say in the running of the railway.

They will also receive complimentary tickets and travel privileges, and exclusive incentives, depending on the number of shares bought.

The heritage line hopes the sale of the £1 shares will fund the building of a new visitor centre, station gateway and spectator gallery.

The money will also go towards creating a training academy.

Further ideas to spend the projected £3 million include restoring the Hagley Hall locomotive – which has not worked for more than 23 years – and carrying out further maintenance to the line and its infrastructure to preserve it for decades to come. The plans will also mark the 150th anniversary of the line.

John Hurst-Knight, Shropshire councillor for Bridgnorth West and Tasley, said: “The Severn Valley Railway brings in a lot of tourists to Bridgnorth, especially during holiday periods and weekends, and the town depends on that.

“If we lost that tourist attraction it would be very bad for the town.

“I know we at Shirehall are very keen to do whatever we can to help out the Severn Valley Railway.”

The railway carries about 250,000 passengers a year.

Just out of interest, will there be information/people to talk to, other than at Bridgnorth?
Edit: without a further post taking up space, thanks for the info below!

Thanks Tigger

(Not one for you, but any chance this could be shown in the news item or Special Events page on the interweb? There's also been comment on Nat Pres about what's happening)

Cheers

Can someone get rid of or smarten up the tatty sales stand that seems to live outside the K & C, it's not a good advert for the SVR.

I think Redleader's point is that table C has the 12-00 KDR and 2-10 Bridgnorth diner shown as Sundays only. The M & S weekend timetable has the diner running on both days.

Valid query I would have thought.

As Patrick mentions above we need to get the info given by tigger out to a wider audience quickly, at least via Nat-Pres.

If all the info in tigger's post is on the main website we can post a link on Nat-pres.

Otherwise, Patrick, "someone" is going to have to do a lengthy post on the topic on Nat-Pres.... Wink

( perhaps worth a link from wnxx as well, we are in the good books after the diesel gala)

I'm sure Pat Goss and the 813 fund would love you to donate some money to help pay for a new one.
