According to the Vintage Carriages Trust carriage survey we now have the above named inspection saloon based on the railway. Is this true, and if so where is it?

I see that this carriage is still owned by GWSR.
Is it here as a Carriage and Wagon sub contract job?, and is it the same one that we did work on several years ago?

Perhaps we should broaden Lewis's remit to develop the private hire market using the observation saloons on out of season days maybe with 813 Given its topical discussion in another thread) . What could be better as a way of sharing a special day with family and friends than a trip along the SVR in your own saloon

Chartering the saloons is mentioned under "Food & drink - Hospitality" but no indication of price is given, I have heard the figure of 2000 for saloon and dedicated loco. Its a bit like if you need to ask the price you cant afford it

We already have quite a good charter business going. For example, this week we have run trains every day - photocharters Mon/Tue, private saloon charters Weds/Thurs, private FE train on Thurs, and two FE trains on Friday.

Admittedly it is a busier week than most for charters, but October also includes photocharters on the 8th/9th, private charters on the 12th/19th, and evening theme trains (diners, DMU spice trains, halloween trains) on the 11th, 12th, 19th, 26th, 30th and 31st. The SVR certainly does do a lot more private/special trains than it may seem to at first!

It does give prices there
Quote:
The saloon can be attached to a public train for 700 or operated as a separate train with its own locomotive for 1200 (both VAT zero rated).

This is under Hospitality Price Guide on the right hand side menu, only thing is that it is the 2012 price list!!!

Taking a lead from buying a used car, look beyond the shiny paint job....

I noticed today that LMS 45048 has moved up the line alongside the carriage shed and is now at the front (give or take a Class 50). Must have been an impressive shunt to extract it! Presumably there must be a reason?
