It may be of interest to some rolling stock aficionados on here that GWR Fruit C Van 2815 has been purchased by Hampton Loade Station Fund for static use as a store at Hampton Loade. This is to replace Caledonian wagon 304543 which is in a poor condition and is planned to be relocated shortly.

2815 comes from Rowden Mill station in Herefordshire where it has been preserved for the past 20 years. It is due to arrive on the railway next week at Kidderminster.

Does relocate mean it is leaving the Svr?

Yes, but nothing is confirmed yet. Since a rough shunt in 2013 the wooden underframe has been cracked which is no simple thing to fix. Its condition is too poor to remain in use at Hampton Loade. An offer has been made from another railway centre for both Caledonian vehicles 304543 and 302080 to be relocated, but nothing is concrete yet. Their future on the SVR looked bleak so this is good news.

2815 has safely touched down at Kidderminster. I can proudly say that you heard it here first on the forum about the imminent arrival of the Fruit C (Saturday) and Facebook only just picked up on it today!

2815 is now in use as a store at Hampton Loade having taken up the function previously filled by ex CR 304543.

It is currently the outermost vehicle in the siding, providing a rare photo opportunity from the south end of the station to have a GWR van in view as opposed to the red panels of tool van 66 normally visible.

A shunt will take place on 10th March and 2815 will be tucked in between 2426 and 66 in the space to be vacated by 304543 on the same day.

It is planned to use 2815 in a small cameo display at the Spring Gala with a small static display of goods in the process of being loaded, although this is subject to confirmation and of course the weather.
