I've had/heard the same question at Bridgnorth.
Loco at South end, "will the train go that way?" pointing to Shrewsbury
Answer of course - "Not very far" (Followed by polite explanation)

The most important thing is to keep a straight face when you get asked those sort of questions. I've had it when a chap has just seen me change the finger boards and then asks me which train it is the next one, or someone asks when the 2.20 train leaves, when the answer is in the question but you have to go along with it.

I believe you can include Prince Charles in this list, who was curious to know why the railway terminated at Bridgnorth and did not continue any further...

Whilst working in Bridgnorth booking office one day in the late 70s an elderly lady walked up to the ticket window and asked for directions to the Severn Valley Railway. I think I kept a straight face, explained that "this is the Severn Valley Railway Madam" and pointed out the superbly restored LMS set sat at platform one.

1146 looks in "ex-works condition", has it just been outshopped?

Yes, thorough overhaul ongoing since last year, I understand it is now very close to or is complete. I think 6562 is next, but not sure. The intention (I believe, someone please correct me if I'm wrong) is to overhaul the whole of GW2 over the coming years. So far 3930 and 6913 have been refreshed, with 9103 ex restoration as well. I think 5883 has had some minor tart up/maintenance work done as well as 9055 and/or 9369.

It was on the charter yesterday, stood out like a sore thumb (by that I mean an extremely white roof!) see 3rd coach in the video of 34027:-

Yes 650 is being finished at the moment and then 6562 is already at Bewdley waiting to follow 650. There is a long queue of GW coaches waiting to follow.

A photo on the Unofficial SVR FB group showing 6562 at Bewdley C&W looking very shiny after its repaint but still requiring some work inside.

If you mean 1856 the chocolate and cream one, the latest SVR news (no.194) mentions a repaint is planned, hopefully sometime this year if nothing else takes priority.
