I am not the expert (either of the two Richards are!) but it is in the right numbering for Brake Thirds. The Gresley numbering system is too complex for my little brain to cope with.

This is to give the carriage a prewar number which it never had to match the rest of the set.

I'm with haynes_m there. To me pretty much all coach numbering schemes are to me, at best, byzantine. Confused
