Visited Eardington Halt today to sample the excellent home made cake with afternoon tea and watch the trains go by. Always a treat at a gala and highly recommended. Eardington played an important role in the early days of the SVR, providing the only watering point for locos and it is an important part of the Railway's history. I see from the mag there are outline plans to reinstate the missing part of the platform. How wonderful it would be to see it put back as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations. Should we open a fund?

The Friends of Eardington Station might be a bit upset if you tried to start a competing group for their station!

Perhaps Steve Downs and the Friends of Eardington Station could?

I have just read a June 2016 Steam Railway magazine with a news item on Eardington station.

It mentions the SVR has given permission to reopen Eardington to passengers at an estimated cost of 20k. At that point already 12k has been raised.

So, is there any more progress to report and is an opening date on the radar yet?

Dear Patrick, thank you for pointing me to the linking information. As a comment there does not appear to be much about the intent to re-open the station compared to what the SR magazine was saying in 2016. Is there a known target date for when trains may start calling there again? It may seem all a bit low profile at present - maybe there is good reason, maybe not?

I suspect that SR has misinterpreted "rebuilding the platform at Eardington", which is an ongoing project run by the station group, as "reopening the station for regular use".

Just wondering if the platform rebuilding has progressed while the regular service is not operating?

Dear Danny252, thanks for the reply and it sounds like the press up to their usual trick of distorting the facts maybe?

Eardington station is open all three days of the gala (though trains do not stop)
