Santa Steam Specials

Get Christmas off to a magical start by joining one of our Santa Steam Specials to meet Father Christmas in his Grotto!

Travel by steam train from Kidderminster to Arley where the children, and the grown-ups, will have the thrill of meeting Father Christmas in his grotto.

A present for fare-paying children completes the experience, before your steam train arrives to take you back to Kidderminster.

Santa Steam Specials operate on: December 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd & 24th

Hi Pete

How are sales progressing, and has the Santa Sleigh Express sellout taken some of the steam (pun intended) out of Santa Specials sales? (I appreciate that wouldn't necessarily be a problem as often demand exceeds supply). Just curious. Looking back for comparison, at 14.10.15 there were 11 full and 17 limited availability. The website shows 0 and 14 as at 9.10.17.

In other news:
The Grotto coaches arrived at Arley on October 1st.
Appeal for help to move presents into rail vehicles on Saturday 4th November from 9am 11am at Kidderminster. See http://www.svrlive.com/volunteers-required

Sales seem to be ok in general; having the Santa Sleighs this year, and also 8 days of Santa Specials - last year was 7 days -- means a direct comparison isn't straightforward. There are more tickets to sell than I think we've ever had before - certainly for the last 7 years.

As of yesterday afternoon, we've sold 13982 tickets in total [SS, SH and SSE] so far as against 13431 at the same time last year, but this year there are 37578 to sell [33025 last year], so sales are 37.2% of total [40.7% at same time last year] -- seem to be generally ok so far!

Thanks Pete, I'd guessed it was something like that but had missed the 8 v 7.

Ref the SVR website:
Bookings for the 11:15 departure showing as 'Red' (denotes less than 50 seats available or fully booked) on all dates.

Anyone fancy being Santa at Arley this year??

It was reported at the Santa Briefing meeting last week that there are still 25 Santa turns to cover. So even if you've never worked on the railway before, could it be something you would like to do?? Even if only 1 turn [i.e. a morning or an afternoon]. For quite a few Santas, this is the only work they do on the railway -- they just enjoy being Santa!

A request for people to help was in the Autumn SVR News; please contact Diane Malyon if you think you could help; she is the Santa event co-ordinator, and as was shown in the News, her contact details are email: diane.malyon@svrlive.com, tel 01746 766130, text on 07807 424921.

Please help!!!

How does the current bookings position compare with last year at this stage?

Down about 9% on last year at the moment; one problem has been the extra amount of Marketing effort to Ghost trains than previous years (this never used to be a significant event), and also in particular for the share issue. Now that both of these are past, we can concentrate efforts on Santa, and hopefully we'll see an upturn soon. And in any case, the final 2 weeks in partcular of the event will sell no problem near the event - we normally end up having to tell people at the time that we are full; what we need now is more sales for week 1 !

PS -- the above is just for Santa Specials - position looks better when you add in the figures for Santa Sleigh, which has sold out, and of course is new for this year; quite a few who would have bought Santa Special last year may have gone for Santa Sleigh this time!
