Well were are now over half way through 2017. Can the passenger numbers achieved so far this year be shared with everyone? It would be useful to know if the numbers are above or below whatever target was set.

Hi Reg - a gentle reminder please on how/where to raise questions:

Quote:
The SVR Board agreed that comments could be responded to from social media, if the person asking the question is a named individual and not a pseudonym. So if in addition to making a statement the individual gives a name and phrases their statement as a question in the Member's Question Time [Private forum] the question will be submitted to the relevant director/senior manager.

I have raised the question of passenger numbers.

It would be nice if the people who have access to this information were more like fellow enthusiasts and volunteered the information, instead of waiting for a formal request via the official channels.

The below isn't a comment on the point raised by Graham.

The former GM's update, which often included passenger numbers, was replaced by the improved version of Express Points and also the new Branch Lines.

I guess that if you want passenger numbers (or other information) regularly you could feed this back to the railway. You can do that using the links below my signature at the foot of this, or through the Contact Us section of the newsletters on SVRLive, at a Q&A, or contact the railway directly.

Passenger numbers in July 22485 giving a profit of £166k.

July numbers being a little disappointing.

Discuss....b

Another year begins and time to reflect on how well heritage railways performed in 2017. I assume the SVR numbers will follow in due course but it is noted that the GWR Boardroom Blog on their web page has already published their figures (pretty slick accounting!).

To quote, 'Well, we all know what happened weatherwise! The bad news is that things did go awry with a cancelled santa day due to snow (resulting in losing over 1000 passengers and income at £16 per person) and two cancelled days after Christmas due to localised snow and ice and atrocious weather for the remainder of the season. However the good news is that even allowing for this, the final number of visitors to the railway during the 2017 season was 100,619 which beats last years total of 100,020', unquote.

This is their hyperlink to that information http://gwrboardroom.blogspot.co.uk/2018/01/some-figures-to-make-this-happy-new-year.html

So well done to the GWR group.

Extract from SVRLive [published 16 February 2018].
https://www.svrlive.com/passenger-numbers

Passenger Numbers for 2017 have been fully collated and are ready for circulation. Total Passengers – which includes, fare paying passengers (pre-book and on the day), Annual Pass Holders, Shareholders and Working Members were 240,686 in 2017 compared with 252,300 the previous year. We were expecting a lower passenger number in 2017 because we had the ‘one off’ special event Pacific Power in autumn 2016 which attracted 14,000 passengers. The 2017 Autumn Gala attracted 5,357 passengers in 2017 some 8,643 below Pacific Power. The weather also played a part with snowfall causing the cancellation of 4,000 passenger visits on Sunday 10th December. Our usual timetabled passenger numbers from October through the December Festive season were also affected by the weather and in total were 1,893 lower than budget. If these negative variances are added back in to the 2017 numbers we would have finished ahead of 2016. May I take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the new 2018 season.

Best wishes
General Manager
