The Santa Trains topic didn't attract any other contributions, maybe this will?

Every so often I come across old photos I've taken - and usually forgotten about, and thought it might be interesting to jog a few memories, including mine.

January is mostly a quiet month for trains running on the SVR, so no moving trains on this date, but I did take a few photos of wagons at Bewdley and the "missing track" where the sales coaches are normally stabled. Obviously it was in the process of being replaced.

January 8th 2011

This is one of the photos which never made it to my gallery at the time, but has been added now, along with some others including the wagons, taken on Jan 8th 2011.

They have been added to my blog, which includes a link to larger photos in the gallery:-

http://www.sharpos-world.co.uk/blog/?p=6298

ANYBODY GOT OTHERS TO ADD, or some for January 9th in any year????? If I can find a photo for dates in the future I will try and add something, but don't want to "own" the topic, so have a look through your photos and keep the topic going - it could be interesting and relieve the boredom on the days when there are no posts on other subjects.

January 9th 2010

Back in 2010 there was a lot happening, and it looks like I had a ride to Highley. 7812, 42968 & 43106 were in action & 5043 on the main through Kidder! 40 photos in the gallery.

The link to my main gallery for the larger photos is in the blog post, along with a few assorted photos from other dates, but I have included one of 42968 here.

For the other photos, the link to blog:-
http://www.sharpos-world.co.uk/blog/?p=6303

Looks like I have some photos for January 10th, so check it out tomorrow.

Nice idea for a thread - please keep the pictures coming. Am I correct that you have to link to pictures on an external host site rather than uploading then direct to this forum? If so could you remind me how to embed the link?

Thanks Robin, yes, it might brighten things up at this dull time of year.

You do need the picture hosted elsewhere, once you know the url for the image, click the "Img" button above the box (it will insert img within square brackets in your message body) then past your url after it, then click the "Img" button again to close off the url. To test it, click "preview".

I've already got something SVR related for 10th & 11th but not looked further ahead yet. The 10th won't be posted until after midnight today.

If I can't find anything SVR related for a date I will hopefully find something else from my tens of thousands of photos to put in my own blog post - but hopefully somebody here will be rummaging through their photos so we don't miss any days. Photos from more than one contributor are better than missing a day.

Thanks Sharpo. I don't have a "Robin's World" or use Flickr etc, but there are a few date specific ones of mine on the SVR Wiki which I could link to as and when. Not a lot of action in January unfortunately.

Exactly, bit of a dead month, but there was a time when SVR trains ran at weekends so maybe only a few of the 31 days when I have nothing of SVR interest.

Just checking - nothing for the 12th - so somebody start flicking through your photos....... You've had plenty of notice......

January 10th 2010

Looks like trains were top and tailed between Kidder & Highley. Reading my posting when the photos were originally added there had been problems running round at Highley, hence the t&t formation. Shows how good my memory is (not) but we travelled Bewdley to Highley for lunch at The Engine House.

The photo here is of 46443 passing The Engine House, the photo on the blog page is of 7812 & 46443 at Bewdley, along with a link to 37 SVR photos.

January 11th 2014

No photos at the "Valley" on this date, best I could do was D8188 being hauled by 47727 from Washwood Heath to Kidderminster, seen at Old Hill. A few photos of it are in my gallery, along with 47727 on the return run.

If you want to see the other photos, check the blog on the following link:-

http://www.sharpos-world.co.uk/blog/?p=6308

As mentioned yesterday, I have no digital SVR photo related to any January 12th - so it's down to YOU to do the honours!!! Do your best!!!

Looking back at what has been posted so far - 2 locos not in service, and one that has left, it really is a blast from the part, and nothing at Arley, yet!!

January 13th 2007.

As I was preparing this post, nothing had been posted for the 12th, so perhaps nobody else had photos easily available for that date - but don't think you've been let off the hook as I've nothing for the 14th. Not looked further ahead as yet....

My own photos show lots of flooding along the Severn, but the only railway photos uploaded were at Highley. I've had to create a new gallery for the 8 railway related photos as they were all in a larger album for the first part of that year, two of the photos here show 7802 and The Lady Armaghdale, then The Engine House under construction.

The link to the 8 photos in the blog post:-

I don't have a picture to hand, but 10 years today was 48773's last day in service (running within Bridgnorth station limits during the flood damage).

The missing 12th - the Sellick Collection has 3 images of 80072 in the snow in 1963 https://www.svrwiki.com/Sellick_Collection

January 14th.

Looking through the photos I thought I'd drawn a blank for today - but what I did find was a photo of 61994 The Great Marquess on the Churnet Valley Railway in 2007. As many people will remember, the loco was based at the SVR for many years. The other link to the SVR for this date was 47798 which collected a coach from the SVR and took it back to Carnforth.

As they aren't "proper" SVR photos I haven't included them here, but there is a link from the blog post. Oh, and the 47 was a video at Old Hill.

http://www.sharpos-world.co.uk/blog/?p=6318

Thanks to the previous 2 posters for joining in on this topic. It's so easy to forget what happened in previous years and my searches during the last few days have certainly jogged a few of my memories. When we get to the dates with a greater selection of photos to choose from, I'll pick the less common sort of photo - such as visitors, unusual workings or maybe rolling stock. I'll only post one photo per day, they're only about 40kb per image so won't gobble up your data, any others that might be of interest will be linked from the blog post, so you can choose to view them if you wish.

I'm not setting "THE RULES" but if several people each posted 10 large photos or more every day....... I'm sure you know what I mean, long downloads, many "similar" photos etc. Don't let me put you off adding photos though.

January 15th 2011.

In 2011 I must've called in the station buffet for something to eat & drink, then a wander around the station photographing the rolling stock at the platforms. In total about 60 photos, all very general shots on a dull day, so nothing really worth adding to my gallery. Always interesting to look back through them though.

Maybe one day, when I have spare time, some could be added to my gallery, but for now just one photo here - showing concrete sleepers being lowered into position.

I've got a Jan 16th photo lined up for tomorrow, not saying which loco or year though........ you'll have to wait and see.

January 16th 2010.

Adding the photo for this date, I realised the year was wrong for the previous post, now changed from 2010 to 2011. Seeing a train running where the lines had been full of stock the previous day did not seem quite right.

Once again it's 46443 seen in action, and going by the photos, it hauled us to Highley where we spent some time in The Engine House before returning behind 43106, as the link in the blog post will show. Also, it seems a 31 brought a 50 to the SVR, as the video at Old Hill shows - see blog post.

January 16th

Also 2010, and another of the locos in service that day. My photos suggest I dropped into Bewdley for an hour or so on the Saturday afternoon but without travelling. 42968 was also there (possibly ready for the Severn Valley Limited the next day?).
