Totally agree, by far the best current serviceable loco and ideal for SVR service. Very Happy

Yes - an ideal loco for the Valley, both in terms of its haulage capacity and it's unique attraction.

What have the Stanier Mogul fund done right that enables them to have the funds in place for future overhauls? Can they pass on any funding tips to other owning groups?

Presumably 42968's "minders" have heard what happened to "Leander" left unattended in Quorn yard?
...Copper piping stolen.

But crime is going down, so we're told......

Indeed, and the GCR have assured us and the SVR regarding the engine's security.

Not in Leicestershire apparently, Sharpo.
The mind boggles as to what the metal fairies could have done to Leander if they had really got to work.

As ever it all depends upon what needs doing to it and how long will it take versus what is due to come out of traffic and when, together with how many engines do we need to run the train service in any one particular year.
Having an active supporting group is also a big plus in doing some of the work - one reason why 43106/75069 have been out of service so long.

One of the problems for many railways has been that the original restoration groups have, for one reason or another, (age, location, other jobs on the railway etc) fallen by the wayside leaving the railway to pick up the full bill for overhauls.

The standard locomotive preservation society on the KWVR is one such group They restored two standards (75078 & 78022) in the 1970s/80s but in recent years became dormant. It has now been re-formed and is actively fund raising and helping with the restoration of 75078.

Hope to see her on Sunday . I think some photographers that haven't been to the GCR for sometime, may be disappointed by the new office built at the northern end of the station.

Having a fast track overhaul! Not complaining nice loco but why does it jump the que?

Because the owners already have the money to fund the overhaul (at worse a large part) IIRC it's the same situation with the following overhaul due around 2025. 42968 owners , the SMF have the funding in place to keep it in traffic until aroung 2040. All paid out if their funds not the railway hence the priority treatment.

Many Thanks. Good to hear that the SMF already have the funds to proceed with 42968 next general overhaul.

42968 is one of a selected few locos I look out for when I visit the SVR.

Thats good news to hear. This group are a very hard working group. I see them all the time at kidderminster during all events. The fact they have the fund to keep it going til 2040 must make it all worth while.
