Saw it with 8188 on a positioning move on Friday. Very smart!

Photographed it shunting at Highley on the 7th, before heading south with a very short train.

Quote:
Severn Valley Railway based class 20, number D8059 / 20059 has had its
power unit lifted out at Boden Railway Engineering limited premesis at
Washwood Heath Birmingham.

The lift was undertaken on Wednesday 8th September. The following day
the defective generator was split from the engine. Kev Cook
engineering services were on hand to help with this specialist task.

D8059s generator, which has suffered a defective interpole will now be
sent away for repair.

D8059 will return to the SVR at Kidderminster after completion of the
work.

On the subject of Class 20s. Is anyone able to report how the dismantling of 20177 for spares is progressing?

Passed by yesterday - it was unconvered and still looks to be in one piece, but the view I had was from a passing train I can't really comment beyond that.

20059 and 20188
D8059 was delivered back to Kidderminster on Wednesday 19th January following completion of power unit and generator repairs. D8059 will be the subject to a number of running in turns between Kidderminster and just south of Bewdley before being released into traffic. 20188 (D8188) will continue in service working engineering and other duties for the time being. Once D8059 has been accepted into traffic, D8188 will be withdrawn from traffic for bodyside repairs and other essential maintenance before being repainted into a livery that it never carried whilst in BR service.

Preserved diesels, with pic

D8059 successfully under a loaded test run on the 23/01/11 within the confines of Kidderminster TMD using a dead 50135 as a dead load. Unfortunately only one test run was possible due to the poor rail head conditions. More extensive loaded test runs will take place over the next few weeks on the line between Kidderminster and Foley Park.

A correspondent writes:

D8059 remains fully serviceable and available for traffic at Kidderminster TMD for use as and when required. On Weds 3rd August she carried out pway duties at Highly returning to Kidderminster. On Sat 13th August she deputised for the non available class 50 on the 09.55 ex Kidderminster and on the 20th Aug similarly for the non available class 37.

On Sat 27th August it is the intention to run them both as a pair complete with an authentic Jolly Fisherman headboard as carried when pairs of 20ís used to haul the summer Saturday extras to Skegness and which would therefore be appropriate for the seaside specials weekend.

I do wish people would get their facts right before posting. 37906 WAS available for use on 20th August, but it would appear that no C37 trained drivers were available to drive it.

Thanks Patrick.

Sorry if I appeared to jump on the reporting, but unfortunately we are a bit sensitive to such things at the moment. It seems sometimes we are getting unjustified bad press at the moment.

Regards 906 it had some work done on it earlier in the week preceeding it's booked turn, and had been on a test run and been declared fit.

The roster clerk had put a call out on the Thursday for a C37 passed driver, but it looks like no-one was available. I'm not sure who covered the turn with the 20, but I can only assume they don't sign C37's.

It's a shame really because the loco was advertised to be working and the paying public was let down, although the roster clerk had the presence to broadcast the change via internet forums in advance.

Talking of facts right mate, that article posted has the wrong dates, it was the 6th of August it replaced the 50 and the 13th it replaced 906. There was definatly a passed 37 driver available for Aug 20th and 906 was in use, going L/E to Highley to move two Rudds to Kidderminster on the evening while the DMU was out with Gunnie at the helm.
