Already? Speedy buggers!

I wonder if it might be more to do with providing the PW with a usable loco for the North half of the line, given the work going on at Arley, and presumably maintenance at various other locations.

I would also assume the 20 will be needed when relaying the track as well. I notice that the ballast wagons at Eardington have been filled. There may also be other PWay projects such as track repalying north of AY which require the 20.

Working off info received I'm afraid. Not being on the ground I can't comment other than to say the 20 returned the Santa TPOs from AY on Sunday. Sorry for the confusion

Regards

Yep, there was at least two panels out by the time we arrived at site with Chris Bond who has filmed the line from Bewdley to the Elan Valley Aqueduct (for potential damage reference purposes after completion) and the plan was to have all 7 out by today.

I understand the need for the PW need of the 20 (I think the plan is some relay work at Arley(?) but if there's nothing at the Southern end, how are materials going to get from Bewdley to the work site (other than road railers.

The NBI states:

Quote:
STW contractors will be using the railway to access the worksite using roadrailers to transport materials...

I'm not sure how easily they'd be able to use a Class 20 for this work, to be honest. We'd need to either provide a train crew for them every time they wanted to move material (which the NBI states could be at any hour of the day), or train their staff adequately to be able to drive a Class 20 and set of freight wagons, which would involve propelling the train for a couple of miles to/from the worksite and hence not be something you want "newbies" doing! I imagine the latter option would also be quite expensive for STW just in terms of paying their staff for the hours spent training, plus any additional compensation the SVR might ask for.

As was stated in the NBI on the matter, "STW contractors will be using the railway to access the worksite using road railers to transport materials to and from the site"

I too apologise for my part in the confusion. I've had it confirmed D8059 is definitely outstationed at Highley for the duration

Reported on FB that 1501 and 8059 top and tailed the 10,30 KR-BH on February 17th as the load (8 or 10 coaches?) exceeded 1501's permitted maximum. 43106 was taking over the diagramme at BH as planned.

Although rostered as a double header of 1450 + 4566, a photo today shows 4566 + D8059, both under power.

I'm not aware of the reason for the change or when it took place

1450 failed with a leaking fusible plug; class 20 substituting.

And from Pete on Facebook 4566 now has a brake problem, so the 20 is taking its last train train back to Kidder by itself.

4566 brake problem now fixed, but too late to change arrangement for 20 to take the train!

David Coombs on Facebok:

Quote:
Thunderbirds are go! What was intended as a leisurely morning polishing D8059 ready for next weeks A service, turned into a 9 hour secondmans stint following the failure of 1450. Duty called for doubleheaded tanks but 4566 is not permitted to work 8 coach sets solo. We ended doing 2 piloting turns, one acting as rear end banker and finally working solo on the last up service following a problem with 4566. Very enjoyable but tiring day which has just ended following a 3 hr drive home. Possibly a unique first time combination anywhere.
