There was a brief reference in a post about SVR engines on holiday to do with dirty frames and a few ideas surfaced.

Has anyone tried Jizer or similar with stiff bristle brushes and wooden scrapers and then hose off the muck.

This done carefully would not spray the muck around as it only needs enough pressure to wash off the emulsified crud.

There would be the benefit of a much pleasanter environment for those who have to go between the frames for preparation work or for maintenance and of course would also enhance the railways image.

Cheers Dave

Have never tried Jizer but it would be an excellent idea to do a comparison between commercially available cleaners on say 6 different wheels of a well dirtied loco (plenty to choose from!) and see which one worked best taking into account the cost & any H&S issues.

All that is needed is a small budget allocation, an intelligently organised trial & some folk to do it.

Lets give it a try then I'll give a hand if Bradley can be got where I can get round.

Thinking about it some more a couple of those atomising sprays would make economic sense avoiding waste.

If you think it worthwhile drop me an email

Cheers Dave
