Not sure how recent this is, but in putting together the monthly web round up newsletter* I came across this.

Gresley Bogies Overhaul - The LNER Carriage Group of the SVR Charitable Trust Ltd is restoring Gresley Brake Pigeon Van 70759 to form a Corridor Brake Third for the SVR's set of Gresley teak carriages. There is a requirement for a suitable person or small team to overhaul a pair of Gresley bogies to run under 70759.

Details at SVRLive’s Volunteer Vacancies page http://www.svrlive.com/Pages/VolunteerVacancies.aspx

Quote:
In the SVR brochure it states the carriages are lovingly restored in our own workshops!
Can somebody tell us where our workshop is?

There are 3 "workshops" on the SVR for carriage restoration

North Star Works at Kidderminster, the workshops at the south end of Bewdley yard, as demonstrated in the 70759 link, and at Bridgnorth, behind the buffet.

Is there a source to the name? I can't think of anything obvious, but Kidderminster and its local history are almost completely foreign to me.

I should think the LNER group know where the workshops are! I got the impression it was a joke based on the fact they were working in all weathers outside...

Sorry S_Lench, but there is no indication where Patrick has received that quote from, it does not appear in the quoted website, so I had no idea whether it was from someone who genuinely does not know where the carriage restoration points are.
There are ,of course, 2 other smaller bases that I didn't list - Hampton Loade, the Barry coach and Arley, the GW sleeper.

Sorry Mr Share, there's been a bit of a misunderstanding I think!
The quote is on the page listed, but it is hidden amongst loads of text.

I agree the original quote was a bit misleading...

Sorry all - just reached this.

The quote was on the page and I lifted it in isolation - sorry if I caused confusion or offence

Just picked up on this quote about the name of the carriage works at Kidderminster. The name has nothing at all to do with Kidderminster and all to do with the name of a carriage shop in a well known town in Wiltshire!!!!

Why 24506 please?
