Did something run in her stead, from memory I don't think there was a spare SVR steam loco?

Patrick

7812 replaced it

So no brake van rides at Highley then?

To sort of answer my own question, I have since heard that there is water leaking from the tubes of the boiler in the smokebox. It sounds as though the full extent of the problem is unknown. I don't know much more detail than that as I have not been working there today.
And it seems as though the loco for the week(??) will be 43106 (off BH).

Have you heard any more about this Andy? Details seemed a bit sketchy earlier so it may turn out to be nothing - lets hope so!

No I haven't mate. I've not been around this weekend but will be over easter. If it's something serious there'll be a phone call coming to the society from the paid staff this week. Lets hope there's no need for a phone call!

Bloody sick of 28' fixing now!

Perhaps your forgetting the sole purpose of the very existence of a steam locomotive is for it to self-destruct at even the slightest provocation. Laughing

Won't Panda, as is his wont, be distressed by your forgetfulness in omitting the apostrophe and the 'e' in the word you're? Laughing

The info I was given on Sunday regarding the failure of 2857 said nothing about any leaks in the smokebox. Although on a purely selfish note I did get a driving turn on 7812 due to it!!

A friend took her 3 & 6 year olds to to see Thomas and they had a wonderful time. The 3 year old is hooked on trains (not my doing) and was amazed to see the real Thomas.

These are the people who we need to operate the SVR when we are no longer able to. As in investment in the railway's future it is invaluable.

Peter.

Just got back in from another great day out on the SVR, including a visit to the engine house. However, I was a bit disappointed to see faces on all of the engines in the EH. I assume someone has thought that they may as well be left on between the two Thomas events. This just looks as though no one can be bothered to take them down and people visiting to see and photograph the loco's must be very disappointed. There are two whole weeks between the Thomas weekends including a (hopefully) very busy Easter weekend.
Is it really too much effort to take these faces off?

Very Happy It cuts two ways doesn't it. Smile To avoid "confusion and delay" single handling is always preferable to double handling. With volunteer manhours being at a premium it seems common sense to make each volunteer a "very useful volunteer! I can see it from both points of view, there is possibly a days valuable labour for each attachement and take down of the faces. This may be better employed elsewhere.

I bet all the youngsters that visited the Engine House were not disappointed.

While it may not be fully to do with thomas, there is a four way temporary traffic lights at the cross roads of Chester road and Comberton road in Kiddy, and traffic today was quite bad. I wonder how people might find trying to get to the railway over the weekend.
