Called in Kidder station today a couple of times, but didn't see 50026. Then noticed it was in the yard as I passed by on the train to & from Droitwich. So, did it run today and second question, will it be on any test runs tomorrow?

Hi All,

Went past the yard on Sunday and noticed oil down the side of the loco, is she ok?

Following its withdrawal from the Swanage Gala the owner of 50026 has decided to postpone the comeback of the locomotive until next year to allow time to iron out a number of snagging minor faults on the loco. 50026 will return to Eastleigh Works where the items will be attended to and the loco loadbanked.

There's quite a detailed article in pp34-35 of RAIL issue 644 May 19.

Two faults can be repaired more easily than the owner previously thought and it is ready for test runs again. There are two outstanding faults: oil in the exhaust and a low reading from the armature of overhauled Traction Motor 4 which the owner calls "worrying". It needs investigation over a pit.

It will move to Eastleigh in June and will be load banked. If required, the faulty TM will be replaced. The owner says that "with luck" it may be back on the SVR by September for a debut to take place this year

Worrying is a relative description of this issue. A traction motor change is ultimately a fairly straightforward exercise to complete, if you have the correct facilities available (i.e. a diesel shed with a pit & jacks) Wink

The owner has sufficient spares to overcome this concern.

There's no need to rush the job.

No you've got 50031 to come back first. Latest update from Cardiff is that 50031 is now fully operational after main generator repairs. It was tested on Wednesday evening and managed a few trips up and down the yard.

Just checking, am I right in thinking 50026 is the only working class 50 on the line atm so it will be doing this coming week's AS2 turn?

Edit: I've just noticed that it says '26 on the SVR website so have answered that question myself.
