From the new WLA website:
Quote:

Drive Shaft - Major Appeal
The fifty years or so service on BR and in preservation take their toll on many key components in our Class 52's, and even the resilience of the cardan shafts from engines through final drives eventually reaches an end. They are launching a major appeal for funds to replace these and are progressing towards an objective of 16,000 (Critical to the continued running of D1062 in 2016)

The WLA will embark on a journey into the unknown with extensive repairs/replacement of equalising beams in the B end bogie. This work is, however, critical to the availability of D1062 in 2016/17. The work is being scheduled to take place in the new Diesel Depot - funds permitting. The 2016 running season is dependent upon this appeal for 5,000

They have been able to locate a supplier of the original pre-heater fuel pumps used in the Westerns, and (amazingly!) they are still in production! The Appeal aims to raise 2,500 over the next 6 months i

With the Diesel Gala being brought forward to May, and the scheduled running days commencing shortly thereafter, it is really essential to secure funding as quickly as possible if we are to deliver a fit and healthy '62 back into traffic in time for these events.

1062's control air reservoir has been fitted above 'A' engine. The drain taps are fitted to both nose-end reservoirs and the auto drain valves are in place. We've also installed the bridging pipe in place of 'B' end main reservoir whilst the heat exchanger is being repaired. The heat exchanger oil bypass elbow has also been fitted effectively getting 62 ready for transit to Kidderminster. As she is now airtight, we'll carry out an air brake test next week.

Reported elsewhere, the lift has been deferred until the end of the year.

The WLA will carry out some additional maintenance on the axleboxes enabling 62 to run this season. With this in mind axles have been ultrasonically tested at Kidderminster Diesel Depot and wthe Fitness to Run exam completed on bogies and underframe, and she will run back up to Bridgnorth next week. The intention is to complete the FTR exam next week if all goes to plan.

Her first booked turn is June 12th

Test run of D1062, seen arriving at Kiddermister on May 9th. Much easier on the ears than the Deltic seen in the other video just uploaded.

October 9th 2017

Western Courier will start to undergo her winter maintenance at Bridgnorth before returning to Kidderminster for the intended bogie work. This winter could see the WLA's most ambitious programme of winter maintenance to date only made possible by the investment made in the Kidderminster Diesel TMD.

D1062 is due to move down to Kidderminster this weekend for winter work in the diesel depot.

November 18th 2017
D1062 is scheduled to depart Bridgnorth today at 10:05 bound for Kidderminster with an ECS move. Courier will then take up position in the shed ready for the winter maintenance. This includes "B" end engine change and bogie life extension work. There will be other work carried out on top of these projects.

With Courier in the Kidderminster Diesel Depot for winter maintenance the next step work quickly moved to measuring the body and bogie heights. It was important to get this done as soon as possible prior to removing "B" end engine and the WLA required the loco weighted to take the measurements. The engine has a suspected leaking cylinder liner. The engine has had various leaks over recent years and so the decision was taken to take it out and change the engine.

Much of the engine has been disconnected over the past weeks at Bridgnorth. Since arriving at Kidderminster the "B" end engine room roof panels, engine to transmission cardan shaft and air filter boxes have all been removed. The engine was removed on November 25th. Work will next concentrate on the Body Lift.
