Waiting on the footbridge for DRS 37409 to pass by today I wasn't taking much notice of what was being shunted, but it certainly looked very smart. Fortunately the coach was propelled back under the bridge & I got a couple of photos of it, they can be found in the following album:-

The wall lights share common parts with the table lamps in 7511. Alleged LMS & LNER cooperation?

It's also being shunted again, per traffic notes

Is 7960 in use? The website has not been updated for a while but suggested it was not going to be used in service

Rumour I heard was it was to be used with the LMS diner as some sort of high class dining train... but how true that it I don't know.

There have been some thoughts on developing a more upmarket "Super Diner" based around 7511 and 7960 and a few other unique vehicles. This hasn't progressed past the scoping stage at present and is "on hold"

7960 still needs finishing although the bulk of the work has been done.
The main outstanding items are the Pantry and the Kitchen. The Pantry is being restored close to the original spec but with the modern Kitchen regs that will be clad and finished without theoven equipment for the moment.

Hugh is masterminding the work which will be carried out under the 'tent' at Kidderminster.

I had a peek when I was driving at the end of September and it was in Martin's Dock in P.2. It is seriously tasty, just like 7511.

On 17 January Mrs Louise James made a gift to the Trust of LNER Restaurant Composite No. 7960 .

Her late husband, Phil James, had been restoring this vehicle for the past 18 years and it is in an advanced state of completion. Sadly Phil died after having mechanical restoration and external finishing undertaken by SVR as contract jobs at Kidderminster. The Trust is extremely grateful to Louise for her gift, and will ensure it stays on the railway Phil worked on for so many years, and finish it in the manner that he had in mind. Volunteers at Kidderminster C&W have been continuing Phil's good work during 2010, more details http://www.svr-rollingstocktrust.org.uk/news/news_jan_2011.html.

Work was also taking place at the same time on the Trust's LNER Restaurant Kitchen Composite, 7960 at the hands of its regular volunteer team. Sink waste pipework for the pantry has been commenced, with a view to being able to let water out, before we try to fill the tanks and test the water supply to the new boiler, just in case there are any problems. Panelling out of the kitchen walls has begun, and the layout of kitchen equipment and services is now on our minds. Other finishing off works in the passenger saloon includes attention to the window drain channels.

September 12th: Chinasearch Crockery Donation. Thanks to this extremely kind gift from Chinasearch and a seperate boost of funding from Mr & Mrs Leftwich the 7960 is now expected to be complete and ready to go back to work by the Spring of 2015.
