We used to go past Kerne Bridge on our regular trips to the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley from the earliest days of 650's use as a Scout Hut. It is incredible that the grounded vehicle that we saw there has become the magnificient carriage that is about to go in to service on the SVR. Heartiest congratulations to all involved in this splendid restoration.

Being brought up less than 2 miles from Kerne Bridge, I well remember seeing the grounded body on the platform every time I crossed the bridge on the way to Goodrich. The work carried out to date looks absolutely superb, and I cannot wait to sample the delights once it re enters traffic.

The art deco finish is such a contrast to other stock - even slightly tired 1295 on the South Devon Railway shows the fittings of the period to good effect.

Well done to all involved!

It appears 650 was having a test run with 50035, shame about the weather.

Yes 650 passed its test run on Tuesday despite the rain.

There is a minor charging issue with the new dynamo which will be fixed.

It's bogies are now being touched up with fresh paint.

650 will be officially "launched" on Sunday on a special charter with other GW(SVR)A stock - details on their own website: http://www.gw-svr-a.org.uk/pdfs/5036X9_650SpecialTrain_4F.pdf

The first photos of the re-launch special are now on the site.

All went well and we had over 100 passengers.

Thanks to everyone for a great day.

Further photos have now been posted.

See http://www.gw-svr-a.org.uk/650_restoration.html

It will shortly take the place of 6913 at the north end of the Dining Set

650 has now replaced 6913 and resides at the north end of the Dining Set. 6913 has gone into GW2.

Will 5883 still be in GW2 as well?

It was the other day when I was walking over the footbridge and the set was being shunted about.
There is a set of GW coaches in platform 2 at Kidderminster at the moment. It consists of 650, 9103, a full third (1086?), 9055, 3930 and 9369. While up in CS1 there was another set of 6 GW coaches containing 5883 and 6913.

They are made up for the Manor week-end.

5883 will stay in the set

Looking at my videos from yesterday, one of the coaches in the Limited looked exceptionally smart. Noting the number, it was 650. Checking back to the previous weekend it was in the 10 coach train, which included the Limited set. If you wish to see it running yesterday, it's here:-

The good news is you'll be able to see it at least every time The Limited is running! 650 has, as reported elsewhere, replaced 6913 as the brake vehicle in set S.

An article on the restoration has just been published in Heritage Railway and also the Winter SVR news. Catering department are thinking of ways to make more active use of it.
We will publish more photos soon on our GW(SVR)A iste.

They need to. I had a look round 650 while it was at Brigdnorth on a diner last week. It is a real stunner. And trundling up and down apparently just for the benefit of staff, as it was when I saw it from a crossing train at the end of Nov.
