The Boiler shell has returned from Pridhams to the DTG workshop, unfortunately due to the anticipated workload on D1015 the boiler has dropped down the list of priorities at the moment.

It is a long time since I have seen a website so sorely in need of a makeover.

I'm not in the DTG, but at least they update theirs regularly! I know of several websites of groups associated with the railway not updated in 2011.

http://www.westernchampion.co.uk/

Swanage 2012 Diesel Gala

Swanage Railway has announced details of its seventh annual Diesel Gala which will see visiting main line locomotives in operation through the Purbeck countryside.

This year’s popular three-day event is being held from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 May, 2012, and co-incides with the Dorset Beer Festival being staged next to Harman’s Cross station by the Globe public house in Swanage.

There will be an intensive all-diesel three-train service between Norden Park & Ride, Corfe Castle, Harman’s Cross, Herston and Swanage from 9am to midnight on the Friday and the Saturday – and until 7pm on the Sunday.

Subject to availability, the visiting main line diesel locomotives starring in the diesel gala will be:
•Class 27 No. D5401 – courtesy of the Northampton Type 2 Group.
•Class 37 No. 37 521 – courtesy of Harry Needle Railroad Company.
•Warship class No. D821 ‘Greyhound’ – courtesy of the Diesel Traction Group.

DTG has a new website http://www.westernchampion.co.uk/loco-d821.php

Latest News
November 2012
D821 is now in Winter hibernation at Kidderrminster, a well earned rest after a very successful season on the Severn Valley. In 2012, aside from participating in the scheduled Saturday diesel turns, Greyhound has found work on driver training days, the Severn Valley Diesel Gala and many extra turns as a result of the steam shortage in late Summer.

Plans are already afoot for 2013. There is the prospect of a visit to another of the premier preservation railways for their diesel gala and also the weekend of the 25th May has been set aside to celebrate D821's 40th year in preservation.

Regards

Patrick

Diesel Traction Group update November 10th:

D821 Greyhound has been 'winterised' at Kidderminster and is enjoying a well deserved rest after a busy season on the Severn Valley.

Just wondering when D821 received the full yellow ends that it appears to have in the videos from the WSR's Mixed Traction Gala? I certainly haven't noticed them before.

Think it was mentioned in the above.

For one loco, is it cheaper to move by road than rail?

Perhaps the photo would be better worded as 821 leaving WSR....
