Does the SVR get an anual fee from Sandwell Council for storing this relic?

The Class 27 this year, as been out of service, as long as it's been in service with the SVR.

It was bought buy Sandwell MBC in 1987, just after 27059 was withdrawn by BR. It was operational on the SVR from 1987 until the autumn gala of 2001.

It's a crying shame; great little loco, and perfect for the SVR.

Whilst I wasn't there personally, I always smile when I see this video:

27059 gets a mention on WNXX, and is to be moved away for repairs. It does say where to, but can anybody here give more information?

From what I've read, it seems that UKRL will looking after it, and making repairs, for Sandwell Council.

Haven't seen any discussion beyond that though.

I got the same idea, but thought I would ask to see if anybody would give further information.

Looking at AbRail, it is showing as in the UKRS pool and LR depot, which is Leicester.

Has it been moved yet? I could see the old Class 20 at the side of the carriage shed yesterday, but did not notice the 27 anywhere - but I was on the footbridge so couldn't see everything.

To be honest, considering that its been sitting around doing nothing since 2001, its great to 'hear' that something is finally being done with it.

A real shame that no further info has been forthcoming though.

I'm reliably informed that it's leaving Kiddy tomorrow heading to UKRail's facility in Leicester for bodywork overhaul.

Do we know what will happen after the body repairs? Is a mechanical overhaul included, and where will the loco be based afterwards? I know that this is probably asking the wrong people, but perhaps someone can advise.

11am this morning it was waiting on track outside carriage works, just came back to see if I could get a photo of it on transporter, but it isn't here. Haulage company obviously arrived and loaded it very quickly.

From Facebook, was seen on a low loader today travelling south, reportedly to Cranmore, East Somerset Railway, for bodywork restoration. Confirmation would be appreciated.

Thank you

Further to the images on SVRLive, is this loco being cosmetically restored by the owner for museum display, or are there any plans for a mechanical overhaul?
Anyone in the know?

Interested to know the answer to this too. It's inside the shed at Cranmore and the roof is off, but is being overhauled mechanically and will it return to the SVR one way or the other?

I don't know either I'm afraid, I'm just posting up Steve Glendenning's reports (with permission) to a wider audience
