Tax relief given on donations to Charities as Gift Aid reduces from 28% to 25% from 31 March (5 April?), so presumably donations given by taxpayers now will earn them 3% more from the taxman.

The following groups associated with the Railway have charitable status:

Western Locomotive Association Limited http://www.westernloco.com/
Trevithick 200 http://www.catchmewhocan.org.uk/
SVR Rolling Stock Trust Company Limited http://www.svr-rollingstocktrust.org.uk/
Stanier 8F Locomotive Society Limited http://www.8fsociety.co.uk/
Kidderminster Railway Museum http://www.krm.org.uk/
Great Western (SVR) Association http://www.gw-svr-a.org.uk/
82045 Steam Locomotive Trust http://www.82045.org.uk/
1501 Pannier Tank Association
Warwickshire Industrial Locomotive Trust http://wilt.jimdo.com/ [added 31/12/2015]

My understanding is Gift Aid has been reduced and hence charities will be worse off and HMG better off. Crying or Very sad

The taxpayer very rarely benefits! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Having a quick search, I found this statement:-

"The standard rate is 28% (this includes HMRC paying a transitional relief supplement of 3% based on the qualifying donations in effect for 3 years up until 2011 due to recent tax changes in April 2008)"

in this site:-
http://www.charitiestrust.org/content/fundraising/gift_aid/index.html

Perhaps this was all around the same time as the abolishment of the 10% tax band?
