An interesting article appears here which has considerable connection to the LNER set on the SVR & how some of these vehicles survived into preservation as part of the then governments "control trains":

Very enlightening. I wager many LNER locomotive aficionados wish a similar accident of history had occured. Possibly as part of the S*******c R*****e in the Box Tunnel siding. Or is it the one under Sugar Loaf? Wink

Those interested by the article may like to know that we also have on the railway two ex-GWR coaches which once formed part of the Western Region's control trains. They are the restaurant cars 9653 and 9654, and some information on this role is included in the stock book entry.

Recently, in the KR Carriage Works stores, we have (re)discovered four sliding screens which we understand used to be fitted to the droplights on one or other of these. They have a cut-out at the bottom to accommodate the droplight strap so that one could open the window to get fresh air in, but stop the light getting out or maybe prying eyes seeing in.

BBC have a page about the SVR completing the overhaul of no.43600 (LNER TSO) on their website.

I see 52255 was outside North Star Works on Sunday. Anyone know if it was on the way in or out?

52255 is in the process of having similar treatment as 43600 has had.
