Jonathan Dunster posted a pic on Facebook with the comment 044 and 049 are receiving further work on their engine overhauls, which are nearing completion.

With regards to 50049, yesterday we pressure tested the coolant system (the leaking cylinder liners were the reason we started the extended and in depth engine overhaul in the very first place), and all appears in order. However there are a number of leaks found in the system - albeit minor ones requiring hoses to be re-secured and the like. Nothing major. Once completed and re-tested, together with final engine oil purging, we should be ready to put fresh engine oil in.

After that, we need to align the connection between main and ETH generators.

Then we should be close to a start up, followed by the process of bedding the new engine in (don't forget it has new liners, pistons, big and little end bearings together with all new piston rings). Then, we should be able to start looking at a test run.

It will be ready when it's ready.

Thank you. I report when I see things around from official and/or trusted sources, but it's great to have feedback such as this.

Well done to the Fifty Fund and the volunteers

Patrick

P.S. I should add that I don't post info posted only on closed or private groups

Both Ark Royal and Defiance running together at Kidderminster today. The first time this occured for quite a while. A massive lift for the 50 Fund and the railway. A few snags to cure but a good day indeed.

Making a fair bit of noise and smoke when I was at the station earlier. A nice sight of activity.

Yes, good further progress with 50049, Loco basically functions as we would expect on shed, now needs a run out to confirm this. Firstly a light engine move, then loaded testing when the re-opened railway permits. Still a list of snags to address, but hopefully nothing insurmountable, and we will have the loco ready for the new running season.

Per FB 50049 had successful tests runs to/from Bewdley home signal today. Images and video are on a 'closed' site

Clearly subject to the usual waivers, as 50049 will be out on a loaded test run tomorrow (Friday), 11am off KR

The SVR diesel season kicks off in earnest this weekend with a 50 working two return trips on both Saturday and Sunday (0945 and 1330 departures from Kidderminster).
The loco is planned to be 50049, on it's first passenger outing since 2012. Subject to availability.

Hampton Loade Station Facebook has a nice pic of D1015 with a service to Bridgnorth whilst 50049 rests after P Way duties, the usual class 20s being on holiday in Norfolk.
