According to 'Steam at Llangollen' the house magazine of the Llangollen Railway, Standard 4MT tank No. 80072 is visiting the SVR to "assist with Santa operations".

On another matter, I heard that 828 may be staying with us over winter to have some repairs carried out.

Can anyone confirm either of these?

First I have heard of 80072 but i'm not surprised considering the current loco situation.
And yes, 828 will be staying a while whislt it is has repairs carried out. Not sure exactly what repairs it's having done but I heard re-tyring is part of it.

We don't have the capability to do the actual re-tyring. We will get the wheels out, and they will then be sent away.

Sent away to Rileys in Bury, according to one of the support crew who travelled to his next duty in our buffet car one of the Gala days.

Indeed; but having been re-tyred we do have the capability to put the correct profile on them.

So it could be around for a second SVR gala appearance next spring!

Word at the Llangollen Railway is that 80072 is definitely away pre-Christmas and set to return in the New Year.

It will be nice to see a 'passenger tank' back in the Valley.

Both 5164 and 4566 are passenger tanks are they not?

All three designs are for mixed traffic working. Our SVR Standard 3MT 82045 tank will be joining the loco fleet in the not-too-distant future.

80072 is just being unloaded at Bridgnorth. Really hope it is put on normal service trains, possibly the festive service so I can get a run behind it Smile

80072 working off Bridgnorth this weekend -- 26-27 Nov. It will be in use on other weekends on Santa trains, but this might be the only chance to travel behind it on ordinary services!
