Dear Patrick, thank you for this most useful reply.

I have spotted one possible problem? The main train company to get me to Birmingham from Nuneaton I believe is Cross Country (and not London Midland who are listed as offering the through ticket).

Any thoughts?

As long as you aren't buying an advance ticket and it's an any permitted route ticket, it should be fine.

Basically it's whatever route [and fare] that gets you to Kidder as normal, plus the SVR add-on amount. From Sunday 21 May 2017 this is 16 adult & 10.50 child.
Nuneaton is a bit of an odd one, in that although it's managed by LM, the first part of the journey to Kidder [i.e. Nuneaton to Brum] would normally be by Cross Country.

Let us hope the new franchise will continue this deal. Coleshill Parkway is LM managed but never sees LM services.

You can check price and availability of through tickets to Bridgnorth (SVR) at http://www.brfares.com/.

Interestingly the Anytime fare from Nuneaton is cheaper than the Off-peak fare.

It's an Anytime Day return and an Off-peak return (ie within one month) hence the difference.

Dear All, all comments and advice received with thanks and the picture is more clear in my mind.

On a Saturday the normal fare is 14.20 from Nuneaton (using a Cross Country train to Birmingham) to Kidderminster. Then add on 16.00 for the SVR journey making 30.20 in total. Should also be able apply the Senior railcard discount to the 14.20 fare?

I will give it a go.

Reg,

As a Senior the *KR-AY only* return would be 12.50. If you are a SVR member that goes down to the child rate, 9. That's a bigger saving than the rather marginal 15/13.50 split originally mentioned above.

If you want the full-line option the 16 NR add on fare is still cheaper than a Senior, but more expensive than the SVR's 'Freedom of the Line' child/Member rate of 13.

You pays your money and takes your choice! Hope this helps

Patrick
