Not much info available yet, but we at Chilrtern Railways are hoping to run a special train from Bewdley directly to London Marylebone using a cl. 168 unit on Saturday 20th October.
Hoping to depart roughly 0845 from Bewdley arriving in London for 1144, and returning from London 1830 with arrival back to Bewdley for 2110. As soon as I get any further information will post it. Possibly the first charter to run directly on to the SVR??

We had two direct services from Bridgnorth to London just a few years ago, organised by Ian Baxter, but sadly they did not work financially. Advertised as Christmas shopping trips, incl stop-off at Swindon outlet.

Were those direct or were passengers de-trained at Kidder Town and put back on at Kidder (NR)?

I think he's right in saying it'll be the first charter to run directly over the new connection, at least!

I don't get what's so special about the date, though - bit early yet for Christmas shopping (unless you're in marketing, in which case Christmas shopping in February is totally acceptable...)

Is the 20th October a bit short notice to sell it but if it works it's publicity and Tigger I think it might of been the Bicester outlet.

I believe through in the morning and change at Kidder on the return leg, the upgraded connection will allow through both ways.

We have never run a charter directly on to the SVR carrying passengers, previously we had to de-train and use the DMU to get passengers along the valley. The previous charters ran to London and Bicester Village.
I think the date was chosen because of the Bewdley festival.
If anyone is intrested the cost is £27.50 return and can be booked via the Chiltern Railways Business Travel office on 01494 420177 during office hours.

Oops - Bicester it was.
Yes, great publicity for the new crossover. Hope it goes well! Bewdley TIC recently won an award, so hopefully it will all work out successfully.

Better get this on the Chiltern and SVR main websites then if it's to be well filled.

Chiltern to operate over Severn Valley Railway

On Saturday 20th October, as part of Bewdley Festival, Chiltern Railways will operate a special service from Bewdley to London Marylebone.

Usually the train would start at Kidderminster, but on this date will commence its journey at Bewdley at 08.45 , arriving into London at 11.44 .

The return journey departs London at 18.30 and arrives back in Bewdley at 21.10.

This will be the first train to use the newly installed facing crossover at Kidderminster to gain access to the SVR.

The ticket price will be £27.50 return.

Tickets are bookable via Chiltern’s Business Travel office by calling 01494 420177 between 09:45 – 16:00 (Monday-Friday)

It should be formed of a class 168.

Surely it'll stop at Kiddy Mainline?

The novelty part is Kiddy to Bewdley over the new connection, that may be the reason for the question.

I suppose...would seem a little bit excessive though to run a DMU from KR-BY just for people to then travel back to KR...

I think BH to BY with a cross platform connection would be more appropriate but unlikely to happen for various reasons.

Not strictly true to say through trains have never run before e.g. 29/12/1981 - LCGB "The Severnsider" and others including one I did with a Crompton ran through to Bewdley, although timings suggest they used the original connection - trains have certainly run through more recently after arriving from the Hartlebury direction.
;
(search Six Bells Junction for further trains)

You may be correct but this would be using the new connection and all the associated new signalling gubbins. On that basis I'd call it a first.
