I'm told it was a bit poorly on the way back, only on one engine?

This evening just saw 1015 pulling away from NR station Worcester bound and it took the train out in fine style.

What I heard was obviously duff gen then. I was half expecting a loco on the rear when I saw it in the morning but they must reckon it's a good performer or no need for a shunting loco at the destination.

This has been posted on Facebook

From the DTG.
Dear All,
As those of you who supported the mainline tour with D1015 yesterday will know, the loco completed the day successfully. However, D1015 did experience an electrical problem in the morning, which was managed by our travelling Engineers, but unfortunately a far more serious problem with B Engine, late in the day, has led me to send out this message to you.
The problems suffered with B Engine will require the removal of the engine for assessment and the decision has been made to withdraw the loco from service with immediate effect, all future engagements have been cancelled until a thorough investigation of the problem can take place.
It is with particular sadness, and some irony, that we have to withdraw from the 40th Anniversary tour on February 25th, a tour which has amassed the most interest of any tour to date.
History seems to be repeating itself here, as it is 40 years and 5 days ago today that British Rail withdrew D1015 from service, ensuring that the loco did not make that last day and sad end for the entire Class on 26th February 1977.
Please note that D1015 will also not be supporting the tour with Steam Loco 60163 'Tornado' on May 29th and no other main line workings are scheduled at present.
Hopefully it won't be long before we see D1015 gracing the stage once again, where Westerns always stole the limelight, the mainline.
Until then,
Wishing all D1015 supporters a very Happy Christmas and New Year,
Cheers,

All the best to the D1015 team to get her sorted

Yes Reg, it seems that way - I wasn't going to make any further comment though.

It shows there is an advantage to a diesel loco having two engines, if one fails the other can keep the train on the move. Same with a Deltic I suppose, as when one has been running on the SVR it can manage on one engine. Probably lots of disadvantages with two engine units - but that's beyond me.

The DTG web site is slightly different -

On the return from Scarborough D1015 experienced a problem with B engine. Initial assessments were that this was serious enough to withdraw the loco from traffic. However in the cold light of day and after some reflection it is now felt that we should wait until the Loco returns to the Severn Valley and a full and thorough inspection of the problem is undertaken by the DTG Engineering Staff. Further news will be posted after this inspection has taken place. As things stand today the loco is still available for all previously advertised railtour duties until notified otherwise.

Maybe this is just the official version

Westerns often run on one engine on the SVR. Do they actually need two engines for main line running? It clearly got home on just one this time.
If it continues with its railtours with only one engine, will they have to be at reduced load and speed, or does it just mean that there isn't an onboard back up if the other engine now fails?

I'm looking at this from the point of view of a Land Rover owner who has broken a half shaft, then engaged four wheel drive/diff lock to get home. It's a temporary solution, but at least it keeps the vehicle mobile, albeit with limited capabilities, until it can be fixed properly.

A friend of mine is booked on the February tour, so he will be checking the "updates" on the following page from Pathfinder:-

There was an announcement shared on one of the SVR groups (which I can no longer find!) which stated that the problem was sufficiently bad that D1015 had been pulled from all booked railtours. However, going by the DTG website statement including "Initial assessments were that this was serious enough to withdraw the loco from traffic. However, [...] it is now felt that we should wait until [...] a full and thorough inspection of the problem is undertaken", I wonder if that announcement I saw has since been rescinded.

It is 7 posts above this one - from the STG Facebook page, apparently.

The initial release was issued in reaction to the fault occurring and internet tittle tattle. The second statement was issued after the engineering team had in effect slept on it and had time to reflect without the pressure of keeping the loco running long enough to finish the day. Another statement will be given once a full assessment of the B engine has been undertaken. Jeff.

Temporary blindness sets in again! That could well have been where I originally saw it...
