Formally announced on the SVR website Special Events pages

'Western' (Class 52) Diesel Weekend - May 4th - 6th

We are pleased to announce, in association with the Diesel Traction Group & the Western Locomotive Association, a Western (Class 52) Diesel Weekend.

In recognition of over 50 years since the first Class 52 Western entered traffic for British Railways, the SVR will once again be holding a 'Western Weekend'.

These were very popular in the early 1980’s and were the forerunner to the now well established Diesel Enthusiasts Gala. The event will feature two 'Western' diesels, both are celebrating 50 years since first entry into service this year

They are:

D1015 Western Champion - entry into service 21st January 1963.

and

D1062 Western Courier - entry into service 6th May 1963.

Subject to confirmation attractions include:

•Two Class 52 'Western' diesels in use over all three days.
•A Saturday evening 'Beer-Express' will operate from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth & return.
•50th Anniversary lunchtime dining train hauled by D1062 Western Courier.
•D1013 Western Ranger on Display.
•Trade Stands.
•D821 'Greyhound' on display.
•Former GWR Steam locomotives in use to continue the 'Western' theme.

Timetable C (all three days)

I see that they've put the timetable out on the SVR special events page.

I think that there is an error in the afternoon section of the timetable, it says that D1015 is heading south on the 3:40 but no service northbound with it.

I think Robert is right. D1015 starts on CS1 which acording to the WTT includes the 1.30 down which on the event timetable is shown as steam. In the WTT it should be diesel

Yes, the timetable seems a little odd. Not much of a Western Weekend if they only operate once in the down direction!!

Also, it states that Timetable C is in use, where in fact it is an amended version with extra trains using the Q path? Is the extra 10:25 off Bridgnorth operated Monday only, or by D1062 Monday only?

Presumably it is a work in progress...

A quick search found this, does it make more sense than the SVR timetable?

It's a bit complicated; not exactly table C.
actually a bit different each day, with locos not always on the same train each day; hopefully this will be made clear on the website before long.

Taken from the DTG site:

16th April 2013
D1015 has now been successfully fitted with GSM-R and it only remains for the bogie change to take place before D1015 can return to traffic. Unfortunately this will not be completed in time to allow the loco to work the diesel leg of Vintage Trains tour on the 27th April or attend the Western Weekend at the SVR the following week.

Wonder whether the Western event will still be going ahead as it will hardly be a Western event with just one Western. Unless another Western can be bought in at late notice, but I imagine that is unlikely??

Maybe D1010 is available from the West Somerset Question

I think the understanding was that should D1015 not be ready in time then D821 would replace it. I think that is still the case.

That's the plan. The Warship will be utilised in the absence of 1015. It will still be a Western weekend being that the Warship is 'Western' region.

SVR website still saying D015 still attending:

D1015 - Despite rumours to the contrary we are stil hopeful that this locommotive will be available. Should this not be the case, class 42 No. D821 'Greyhound' will be substituted.

it's playing at reporting what the situation is. The situation is not absolutely certain as it stands. What else are you expecting it to say???
