Duncan Sealey has posted an album to the closed Fifty Fund Facebook page with more floor painting being undertaken (yellow safety bits)

Many thanks for passing on these snippets of information Patrick, it helps us to form a mental picture of progress inside the new depot.

Winter is forecast to arrive next week, so hopefully some of the diesels will be undercover by then.

Regards

Rob

On Friday 8/1/2016 (as I was passing):
One team was running in wiring and conduit in the pits.
Another team was floor painting.
A third team was marking out for future floor painting.

Finally it looked like some boards for notices and general signage had just been put up.

Now the cold weather has arrived, are those diesels destined to reside in the depot, now safely tucked away?

I'm not involved with the diesels but based on what has been posted online, there is more work to do fitting the shed out before it can be used just yet. Hopefully someone in the know can say.

The chairs in the pit should make for very comfy bogie inspections.

Looks really impressive. Being able to work on locos inside when it is wet, cold and dark outside will no doubt be much appreciated by the people involved. Once all the equipment is installed, repairs etc. should be much quicker.

It certainly is a facility that impresses!

I wonder if there's any chance of contact work being undertaken at some point in the future? Perhaps more feasible in the form of facilities being rented out, rather than SVR groups actually doing the work.

I suspect space will be at a premium just for the home fleet and KDR based engines generally. Just consider the locomotives "not" represented in that photo!

Now, about those pesky steam locomotives that stand outside in all weathers.... Wink

A fair point - I guess a fair bit of maintenance that was formerly done at external sites might now occur on the SVR.
