From SVR website:
Quote:
We turn the clocks back to the 1940's with this lighthearted journey back to wartime Britain. This is one of our most popular events of the year.

Attractions include:
Intensive service of steam hauled trains.
Costumed re-enactors and performers.
Replica full size Spitfire (1st weekend only).
1940's replica house at Kidderminster.
Historic vehicle display.
1940's wedding.
Conscientious objectors display by Friends Meeting House, Bewdley.
Flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (subject to confirmation and weather conditions)

PLEASE NOTE THAT, DUE TO FACTORS BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THE 'BATTLE' AT HIGHLEY WILL NOT TAKE PLACE THIS YEAR. WE APOLOGISE FOR ANY DISAPPOINTMENT THAT THIS MAY CAUSE.

VE Day Celebration Shows - June 29th & July 6th at 7.30pm - Kidderminster station - additional charge applies.

Our evening concerts strike a new note this year as acts come from far and wide with tunes from the 1940s which are sure to get you singing along and get those feet tapping!

Artists featured vary as follows:
June 29th
The Three Bells - Andrews Sisters Tribute Band
The Bevan Boys - Three Piece Band
with
Dicky Lines - Impersonator and Compere.
July 6th
A Salute to the 1940's - Six performers and Impersonators.
with
Peter Wayre - Singer and Compere.

Given the weather we have been having would it be possible for the concert audience to have some shelter. Last year it was difficult to appreciate the acts due to the apaling weather on the first Saturday.

Go on then, explain so that we can complain!

(Mind, I'm sure we'll get a good head start on complaining before the explanation arrives Wink )

I seem to remember there being a few complaints from passengers about the battle last year. Wasn't it mentioned there would be a new organising team this year?

I'd imagine it'll just become an extended C - to be honest, that's what I recall it being the last few years, but with a half-hour "all stop" during the battle.

Yep, and I get the feeling that no-one wanted/could agree to do it. Maybe next year...

So no battle : a lot of people come just for that..supposedly a new re enactment group was being taken on this year to organise the battle..so it would be nice to actually know what has occurred.

Certainly the re enactors did not like the battle in front of the Engine House nor did a lot of the public..far more atmosphere when held at station site..so assume there will be a lot less soldiers around this year for the general public to see...lets hope they do come back next year if the battle recommences...

so let's have an explanation to avoid endless speculation

Noticed that the comment

THERE WILL BE NO BATTLE THIS YEAR DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL

has been removed from the SVR website.

so is there now a battle or has it been removed from the website so people will not be aware until there are here. ???

Yes the battle is back on this year and is returning to the station not in front of the Engine House......reasons appear to be twofold....

Firstly the re enactors have never liked it in front of EH as unsafe and restrictive.......secondly after Peppa Pig w/e and overcrowding suddenly seems that there is a restriction of 350 people inside at any one time (including staff and artistes).......seems fire safety certificate covers not more than that......the thankyou Hog Roast for paid and volunteer staff confirms this restricted to 300 staff and partners......

if the numbers limit is the original one from 5 years ago makes you wonder what might have happened for last 3 years of 1940s events.....

just a thought

Ah, brilliant, Highley Signalbox will have its status as best viewing seat re-instated!

I really look forward to this event, and especially the BBMF flypast.

I'm quite disappointed that it's potentially the C-47 Dakota this year rather than either of the Spitfires, Lancaster or Hurricanes.

Clearly I wasn't around in the 1940s, but a Dakota is just another plane to me. Many planes fly up, down and across the valley each weekend. I'd hoped for one of the BBMF icons!

Any booking/TTIs out there? Is the shareholder's pass valid? It only says not Santa, so I guess it is?

The query's for a shareholder who has tweeted the official account

Thanks

Patrick
