To I_Hunter

As far as I can tell from the latest (1998) stock book there are only a few carriages awaiting restoration.
5 Great Western - no's 2426, 4786 and 5043, plus 650 and 6045 which are now being worked on, and conversion of LNER 70759, also currently in progress.
However, remembering the number of carriages on the Valley, there are always a number awaiting overhaul as opposed to restoration. Over the last 2 - 3 years the appearance of the sets in service has consistently improved, so the overhaul program is obviously successful.

Peter

To expand on your information I've got

(1)Being worked on:

(a) Not previously run:

Barry coach 198
7960 (now complete?)
650
6045
70759

(b) Previously run:
Stove R at Bridgnorth
M25771 Kidderminster

(2) 'never restored' category - nos. 2426, 4786 and 5043

About right?

Thanks

Patrick

You need to add 5804 to the list.

The GW(SVR)A has plans for all these
2426 to follow 6045 to be restored as another toplight full third but with wooden body as our oldest GW coach.
4786 to become a fully lined out 1926 livery bow-ended full third to enhance the vintage set.
5043 and 5804 to be GW buffets.

If this all works we can even image a full GW weekend and branch line themes with all 3 GW sets in use and 4 sets if you count the 14xx plus auto trailers.

What do you think?

Brilliant ideas Mick!

Perhaps a heretical view but a 2 or 3 coach set of GW design coaches in BR livery would add a dimension not obviously available elsewhere.

The SDR has made a particular speciality of BR liveried GW stock.

amongst the tarpaulined vehicles is what looks like a four wheeled coach of some description . Suggestions gratefully received

I believe this is the 'Riding Van' which resided in the siding at the end of the sleeping coaches at Bridgnorth until recently.

Peter Hall has asked on the National Preservation Forum:
Quote:
Can anyone confirm from first hand observation / knowledge whether BR Mark 1 BSK 35467 http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1921 is still at the Severn Valley Railway or not? A couple of years ago an unconfirmed report had it as moving to Crewe. It might have course gone to Crewe for attention and then returned.

The thread is here (requires login to update), or if anyone can update the thread here , I'll repost the information.

A year has passed and I'm seeking another update for the Wiki. One of the 3 GWR carriages alongside the carriage shed (2119, 9615 and 4786) is no longer there. Could Mick or anyone else confirm which one has moved and where to?

Robin,

The change is that 9615 has gone into the shed for assessment for its overhaul.
