News item on SVR website today:

We are pleased to announce that 'Deltic' No. 55019 'Royal Highland Fusilier' will be visiting the Severn Valley Railway for the 2014 Summer Season.

The loco will arrive in early to mid May and will stay until October, departing after the diesel gala. The loco will be used on selected scheduled services.

Keep an eye on our 'Meet the Locomotives' pages to find out when the 'Deltic' will be in action.

That "rumour" from last month had some truth in it then. Let's hope the 37 comes as well.

55019 went to the Bluebell yesterday, any idea when it is likely to be moved to SVR? 55009 hauled it down there, so could that be the loco that hauls it away from there?

I was checking the progress of the Deltics as they approached as I knew a train was also due through platform 3 at around the same time. I'd thought about catching the train back to Small Heath to film them there, going up on the road bridge at Tyseley or joining the photographers at the Birmingham end of the platform. Well, you can see what happened.....

Kidder to Southall 13th May.

Is it 55009 leaving the SVR? I've had a week away from the area so don't know what's going on, but am just guessing. Or has that Deltic already left?

I wasn't sure, but guessed it might be the one that hauled the VSOE train.

Yes Sharpo. Crossed wires I think.

55009 Alycidon delivered sister 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier to the SVR. 55019 is visiting for the summer.

55009 was, at least initially, stabled at Kidderminster.

The post above enquired whether this move is 55009's departure and Sharpo raises the point that it is being positioned to haul the VSOE to the SVR on May 16th.

Confirmation from anyone in the know would be appreciated

Patrick

P.S. http://thedps.co.uk/ shows 55009 hauling the Pullman. Going O/T

Volunteer’s View – May 2nd

This week’s report by Graham Clarke comes from Kidderminster:

We had a very busy day at the Severn Valley Railway on Saturday [May 2nd]. 55019 did two round trips under Stuart’s care. D9009 was polished, all of the electrical switchgear was checked and a flexible bellows was changed in the B Bank exhaust system of no. 1 engine.

The exhaust system repairs involved partially draining coolant, removing the exhaust manifold elbow, removing the failed part, cleaning the joint faces, fitting new gaskets, fitting the new part, filling up the cooling system and test running the engine. I also removed and re profiled both sets of compressor contact tips, which were well worn. These are switching the compressors on and off constantly every few minutes and get burned up fairly quickly as a result. It was a long, hard and late day, but it was successful and rewarding.
