After being on static display at Birmingham Moor Street, this loco has been sold to "active preservationists with extensive experience with ex GW locos..." ( quote from another forum) and is under active overhaul at TYS.
Reports indicate that as Barry locos go, this one is in particularly good condition, ie complete motion, good tyres, good inner firebox, etc.

Just out of curiosity does anyone happen to know the group working on 2885 and where their heritage line affiliations might lay?

From the images of the recent open day at TYS, 2885 still looks complete. It was stabled on one of the turntable roads.

Did anyone who attended last weekend's open day glean any information about what the future holds for this locomotive? I recall seeing somewhere that it had been sold on following its removal from display at Moor Street.

2885 has been sold to a consortium, some of whom are SVR members, but the last I heard no decision had been made on it's eventual destination

Hi,

A lot of 'hidden' dismantling of the motion of 2885 has been undertaken by the owners, so some work is going on towards restoration to working order, as to the eventual destination of the loco this is undecided.

Note: I am not one of the group restoring the loco but do know who owns it and am saying no more except to say it is in safe hands..
