813 found itself on footplate experience duty yesterday after the failure of the "Manor" which started Saturday on said FE duty.

Extracts from SVRLive [published 25 November 2017]
http://www.svrlive.com/813

On this day 50 years ago, the fledgling Severn Valley Railway received its fifth resident, the unique ex-Port Talbot Saddle Tank GWR 813 at Bridgnorth Station. Since joining the railway in 1967 and following extensive overhaul between 1996 and 2000, 813 has visited many railway centres and has become a favourite to many people.

Currently 813 is in her second ticket following an extensive overhaul between 2009 and 2016. Since returning, she has made appearances at the SVR End of Season Gala in 2016, 2017 Spring and Autumn Galas and wedding and private charters. She has also travelled to the East Lancashire Railway (a first time visit) and once again to Didcot, which included meeting LNER 4472 Flying Scotsman in August of this year.

Thanks to the GWR 813 Preservation Fund, not only has 813 been preserved for future generations but also been able to steam once again. This is thanks to the stand at Kidderminster Station run by Pat Goss and the many volunteers who have put in countless hours to keep her running. A special thanks must also go to her former caretaker, the late Paul Johnson, who we lost a year ago today and is missed by many people on the Severn Valley.

Here's to another 50 years and many more memories.

Extract from SVRLive [published 28 November 2017]

Steam Railway Magazine reports 813 will move to the Kent and East Somerset Railway [sic] to assist for nine steaming days on the line’s ‘Santa Special’ season.
PJ web admin note: I assume this is meant to read the Kent and East Sussex Railway?

She has been booked to attend the Bluebell Railway’s ‘Branch Line Weekend’ gala on May 19/20th 2018.

In case anyone is wondering how 813can help at KESR with their santas and nor the SVR it is down to the topography of the line. From Rolvenden to Bodiham is relativly flat and a small engine can cope with a reasonable train. The pinnch point is Tenterden bank between Rolvenden and Tenterden. Whilst its sometime since I was there I dont supose the mode of operation has changed.

A single loco will take the first set to Bodiham and back to Rolvenden. At Rolvenden rear assistance will be given up the bank At Tenterden the train engine will uncouple and the banker will become the train engine. after departure of the santa the spare engine at Tenterden will drift back down the bank ready for its next duty as banker then train engine
