Another update was posted last night on

The corridor ceiling frames are now in place and work is now concentrating on the ceiling panels which can be installed without affecting the work needed on the roof panels.

The first ceiling panel is now screwed into place and the white D shaped panels at the ends of the compartments are almost ready for attaching.

We are fitting the ceilings, some more missing mouldings have been made and the toilet doors are being completed. Work has begun on repairing the top cantrail.

Another update has been posted today.

6045 is now outside the joinery shop and it will shortly enter the paintshop for roof and gutter repairs.

I have just read the excellent article written by Mick Haynes and two others in the current issue of Great Western Railway Journal (no.102, Spring 2017). It gives a good insight into the design and construction of the GWR's 57ft bow-ended design and should be of interest to all those following the restoration of no.6045. There are pictures of the work being carried out on this coach and also of the fully restored no.9103.

New roof edge now in place on the corridor side. All third class compartment doors varnished and reassembled. Corridor ceiling cornice supports attached to the cantrail.

Sure, this is historically correct. There is a steel facing plate on the gutter which is now being attached. All steel gutters did not appear until 1936.
