Even though our Diesel Gala isn't until the Autumn, we thought we'd tickle your tasebuds with a couple of exciting announcements.

We are very pleased to announce that Class 14 'Teddy Bear' No. D9531 and Class 35 'Hymek' No. D7076 will be visiting us for our October 1st, 2nd and 3rd diesel bash!!

No. D9531 is a type of small diesel-hydraulic locomotive built in the mid-1960s at Swindon Works, the home of the former Great Western Railway. Nicknamed 'Teddy Bears' due to their small size following a comment by Swindon Works' foreman George Cole who quipped "We've built the Great Bear, now we're going to build a Teddy Bear!", the Class 14 will provide a taste of things to come as the Severn Valley Railway's own Class 14 No. D9551 is currently undergoing an overhaul.

Also a diesel-hydraulic, No. D7076 is one of four preserved 'Hymeks' although it is the only preserved example from the later MkII batch. New in 1962, D7076 along with the other Hymeks had a very short service life, being withdrawn in May 1973. The nickname 'Hymek' is because of their Mekydro-design hydraulic transmission units, and No. D7076 will be visiting the Kidderminster to Bridgnorth line wearing British Railways blue livery.

Both locomotives visit us from their East Lancashire Railway home, courtesy of the East Lancashire Railway Diesel Group.

The locomotives' visits are subject to availability, but alongside a Deltic, Western and a 50, we think this Gala is shaping up to be quite spectacular...

Look out for a number of further announcements to follow in the next few months.

Nice, this might actually be the first diesel gala I can go to since 2011's one.

Intended to book a three-day Rover with membership discount today, but this gala isn't listed in the 'members tickets' section on the main website. Could I ask when these will be available?

Don't know the answer I'm afraid but Visitor Services should be able to help 01562 757900

Drive a 'Clayton' - your opportunity to take control of a unique locomotive . . .
We are very pleased to annouce that the sole surviving 'Clayton' will be appearing at our Diesel Enthusiasts Gala later this year.

Class 17 'Clayton' No. D8568 will be visiting us this Autumn to take part in the Diesel Enthusiasts Gala from October 1st to 3rd.

No. D8568 is unique, being the only surviving example of the 'Clayton'diesel electric Type 1's which numbered 117 in total.

Whilst on the SVR, the locomotive will also be available for a number of Footplate Experiences, where you will be able to take the controls of this unique diesel electric!

For 325 you can drive the 'Clayton' for 8 miles, act as secondman for 8 miles, then have a further 16 miles riding behind the locomotive on the private Footplate Experience train.

Footplate Experience, realise your lifelong ambition...

Seems a bit odd that the website only has 3 home locomotives as attending ('D3201, 12099, D1062 and the DMU'.) Surely there will be at least one class 50 available (50031/35??) and D8059?
