The railway has announced they have secured a 4.6 million award as part of a 'Yorkshire Magnificent Journey' theme. Well done for achieving such a large amount of funds.

I understand the railway will have to also find the same amount of money themselves making a huge total of 9.2 million to invest.

I read about this news on their internet page title https://www.nymr.co.uk/news/north-yorkshire-moors-railway-secures-national-lottery-support-news

IMO it's interesting what it is for and how it compares with Lottery Funding on the SVR:

Renew and repair bridges - the SVRCT is bidding for funding towards Falling Sands viaduct

Provide a free access carriage in every train - no Lottery funding (yet?) applied for by the SVR AFAIAA, although there was a DfT award (though the 75k is substantially less than the NYMR award of 770k)

Carriage shed - SVR's carriage shed too had Lottery funding

Dedicated education carriage - SVR's Engine House provides education facilities and it too had Lottery funding

Volunteer hostel - part of the 2016 SVR share issue, no Lottery funding (yet?) applied for AFAIAA

Initiatives for volunteer recruitment - no Lottery funding (yet?) applied for by the SVR AFAIAA

Railway apprenticeship programme - the SVRCT was awarded funding towards 4930 (though the 95k is substantially less than the NYMR award of 470k)

Care and management of the 18 miles of lineside - no Lottery funding (yet?) applied for by the SVR AFAIAA

I don't know whether any of this is relevant

Patrick

I suppose the recent vandalising of their teak set underlines the need for secure covered protection for their rolling stock. I didn't realise there was enough space at Pickering for a 40 carriage "barn" ( as distinct from a "shed"). I thought the plan was to cover three sidings at Grosmont.

Still, a significant boost for the NYMR.

Is the SVR Lottery application already submitted in respect of Falling Sands?
