January 17th 2010.

The day after the 2010 photo from yesterday, it seems 7812, 43106 & 46443 were working trains. 43106 on the Limited though, not 42968 which was still in the yard with no sign of smoke or steam rising from it. The search of my gallery only shows 4 photos but includes the 3 working locos, link from blog post.

January 18th 2011 Sunday.

No trains seen this day at the Valley. It appears we had a walk to Arley to see how work was progressing at the station. You will see from the photo that most of the track through the station has been lifted as has much of the down platform. It's just not the same without a train or two!

Five images can be found via the blog page if you wish to see more:-
http://www.sharpos-world.co.uk/blog/?p=6334

All I can find for the 19th is a photo at the "other" Kidder station, so you can give it a miss tomorrow if you don't want to see a couple of units, unless somebody else has a Jan 19th photo.......

No more pics from me until the 23rd, I'm afraid. Out of interest, when creating the 'On This Day in History' pages on the SVR Wiki, January 18th was the only day (apart from Christmas Day) where I've never found any specific events recorded in SVR News or any of the SVR Bibliography. I've therefore added a page mentioning the work at Arley and linking to your blog page - hope that's OK.

Yes Robin, that's OK.

To save pointless posts here, there are several days where I have nothing for the rest of this month (not looked at February yet) and the dates are 20, 22, 25, 26 and 29.

The posts in my own blog will continue as there are photos of non SVR subjects, the one for today has a 172 unit at Kidder, which is the closest shot I could get to the SVR (but won't bother adding here) during my visit to the Museum. For classic diesel fans a pair of 97s at Wolverhampton and a video of 37s on a nuke at Rowley may be of interest.

So, nothing from me here until the 21st but if anybody else can add anything for the missing days.......

January 21st 2006. Saturday

I only photographed one train on this date in the previous 15 years, so no choice of what to show here. At a guess, as it was just a passing train at Country Park Halt, we probably walked down from Alveley Country Park to see what was running. Good to see 45110, first view of it so far in this topic.

(...and if you like diesels and electrics, some from 2003 at Stafford on the blog page, but that's totally off topic!)

January 23

2010 again, with Erlestoke Manor running round at Highley. Services in January terminated there while the points at Hampton Loade, damaged by 43106 the previous autumn, were relaid.

43106 at Bewdley on this date in 2010, 4566 in the background

There are 4 photos in the link below, it is long but appears to work. From one of the photos it seems I must've had a ride on the train.

January 26th 1963

Railway photographer R.J. Sellick took a number of photos of locos in service in and around a snowy Bridgnorth. These included BR standard 4MT 80072, a type rarely seen on the branch, and GWR Pannier 3619. Links to the SVR Wiki where the photos are credited.

Standard 4 tanks were seen regularly towards the end of the BR service. Several photos around showing our own 80079 near Bridgnorth at the time.

They were certainly seen from time to time as per the link below, but I believe they were classified as blue route availability while much of the branch was classified dotted blue, therefore they should have been restricted to 25mph in use.

If anyone can confirm that the information on route availability is incorrect, please let me know and I will amend the SVR Wiki accordingly.

Reading through the 1962 WTT again, I've come across the table on page H166 specifying how BR Standard locos should be treated, which has:
Quote:
BR Class 4 (2-6-4T) (80XXX) - Prohibited on "Yellow" and "Uncoloured" routes. As for WR 51XX class.

On its own this matches the previously understood situation. However, the SV Branch instructions on page H163 make an explicit exception for 51XX class (and therefore 80XXX locos), stating that they are unrestricted between Bewdley and Victoria Bridge, and between Linley and Ironbridge (after which the line is Blue anyway). The 25mph restriction therefore only applied over a somewhat shorter section of the line.

How things have changed. We are now Class 8 Pacifics along the line!
