I bet you're all sat on the edge of your seats, biting your finger nails, anxious for the 2018 app.......... NO? Thought not...

Anyway, I fired up the old grey cells last night & started working on it. Needless to say it's a struggle to remember how it all works, but it does get easier the more time I spend at it.

If anybody still has the 2017 app on their device, it will probably update itself to the 2018 version when it is released.

Will keep you posted on progress.

I may not be on the edge of my seat waiting, but I'm really glad of your app and use it regularly. It's quick, easy and doesn't need a phone or wi-fi connection which can be very handy in the more remote areas of the Valley. If only looking up a timetable on svr.co.uk was as easy! Very Happy

I'd also like to pass on appreciation of your work Sharpo - it really is a useful app for quick reference.

Thanks for those comments, probably finish it by the end of the week.

What I might be able to do is a video of it when it's finished, showing how it runs on my mobile, the observant viewers might spot any mistakes that I've missed. Me, make mistakes - yes, sometimes....

I'll give it a try and let you know if it's worth doing a "demonstration".

I surprised myself by finishing it this evening. I installed it on an old mobile phone & Mrs S & I have just gone through the timetable for each month making sure the correct one appears, checking it with the pdf of the preview version that's online.

Most of the time spent on it was on what you don't see. The previous versions had a page for each of the 12 months, which was a simple way of doing it, but this version has just the one calendar page with the appropriate calendar image inserted on it. So much easier once I understood how it worked.

Tomorrow morning I will film how it appears on my mobile, then upload to YouTube, then the eagle-eyed amongst you can point out any mistakes I have made.

You never know, the value of old Android phones might increase (just joking) as you could get a cheap one, download the app over wifi at home or at the SVR and install it - you won't need a sim card to view the timetable so no running costs. Easy solution for iphone users! Looking at a paper timetable is old fashioned these days.

Just uploaded video of the timetable part of the app working on an 11" tablet. If you view it on a larger screen device you can see the calendar pages uploaded and the blue and yellow timetables. I've looked at it and can't see any obvious mistakes, but if you see anything wrong please let me know.

I have another video of it uploading as viewed on an old 5" mobile without a sim card, then with wifi switched on the ability to use the internet options of the app. Don't chuck your old android phone away, it doesn't need a sim card!

Other video now uploaded:-

Hi Paul, Could you please remind me how to download your app on my Samsung phone. I had the app last year and found it very useful. Unfortunately I deleted it after Christmas. Thanks.

I'll let you know when it is available (for free) in Google playstore, should be in a few days - as long as no major errors are pointed out to me. Glad you found it useful.

If anybody still has the old version on their mobile, it should update when new one published.

One discrepancy in times, which has been mentioned to me, is the southbound departure times from Highley in the yellow timetable.

There seems to be a difference of 2 minutes in most of them, one of the examples below:-

Using the interactive timetable on svr.co.uk the time shows as 11.20

http://www.svr.co.uk/2018CalendarTimetable18.jpg shows as 11.22

http://www.svr.co.uk/pdf/Timetables/SVR%20Timetable%202018%20(Preview).pdf shows as 11.22

The time I have used is that taken from the download link, the last link above.

Which is correct and if the pdf download has the wrong times will it be ammended, as that is where I get the copy of the timetable from?

The latest available version of the Working Timetable that I have (version 2 dated 10/11/17) states 11.22am, but with a note that the advertised departure time is to be 2 minutes earlier (11.20am). The same applies to all other times you mentioned (except 5.59pm, where all versions are consistent).

It also applies to all Down departures from Highley, but the advertised times are in accordance with the instructions on those linked WTTs.

Perhaps it's worth waiting for e.g. Pete or Patrick to confirm, just in case the WTT has been further modified since November.

Thanks Daniel, will wait and see what they say.

I'm not aware of any changes to the WTTs circulated internally in November. The comment in it "Public departure time advertised 2 minutes earlier, train may depart once public time has been reached, if signals allow." is only on table A, i.e. not B.
WTTs should be on svrlive by now, by the comment there "Working timetables for 2018 will be posted here in January 2018 for services commencing February 17th.", but with 2 hours and 5 minutes of January left, I think this is unlikely!!

Best thing is to stick to the times shown on http://www.svr.co.uk/CalendarTimetable.aspx !!

Right, the next question is, will http://www.svr.co.uk/2018CalendarTimetable18.jpg be changed? As that is what the printable version link on http://www.svr.co.uk/CalendarTimetable.aspx takes you to.

Unfortunately it's an example of the same site showing conflicting information.

yes -- I see what you mean -- the 2 minutes earlier shown on the individual table A, but not on the jpg, which was taken from the preview timetable brochure. I think what we'll have to go with is what the final version of the public timetable brochure shows -- I haven't seen a copy of this yet. I'll report this matter to the appropriate people, and see which version we'll need to work to. Thanx for noticing it!!
