On the closed unofficial FB page, with images

This week's progress. Cab now has virtually all the gloss green applied, just the front spectacle plate to go. Front buffer beam has had a fresh coat of gloss red to smarten it up; both pony wheelsets now in black undercoat; grinding of horn faces continues, now on the 7th one so over half way!
with Bryan Clarke, Andy Williams, Gareth Price.

Mr Price comments: We're looking at 2019 or maybe 2020 [for completion].

Bearing in mind that contractors can be rather slow we are hoping that 2018 will be a realistic year for steaming 82045. There are no guarantees of course but 2020 is a little pessimistic we feel.

It'll be great to see it steam and at work on the SVR. Better than seeing the FS !

In general terms I agree with Joe, that 82045 will be of far greater use to the SVR than FS, in fact I think 2 Bulleid light pacifics a bit over the top, nice as it is to see them, hear them, travel behind them. However it must be said that FS is a big draw for a gala, and therefore as a visitor (short term) it does have it's own attraction.
In other words, if you were comparing like for like (ie., as an SVR based loco for sole SVR use) 82045 will win hands down every time, but for gala attraction FS will win (Likewise a Duchess, an A4, a MN or a King)

Gareth Price on Unofficial SVR Facebook yesterday:

top half of rear of cab plus lockers have been repainted so they will match the rest of the cab; buffer heads repainted to match the red; first set of pony wheels in topcoat. Plus part of the rear section of vacuum pipe was fabricated today, along with further machining and horn grinding. In the paint shop the cab just requires gloss black to the roof and lining.

I am impressed with this project and look forward to seeing the loco working.(Yes I am a supporter)

I wonder what the chances are of seeing a "standard" gala at the SVR. We could have our own Standard 3 and 4 and borrow a Standard 5, Standard 4 tank, and class 2 as well as a Brit and perhaps the Duke. What a line up that would be!

Didn't the SVR host an influx of Standard 4 tanks for one gala?

Around 2018/9 the SVR is hoped to have two Standards in traffic. The Standard 4 tank is not likely to be in traffic for a while.

Typically a SVR steam gala hires three engines to supplement many more of the home fleet. The Class 2 (tender and tank), 4 tank, 5, 7, 8 and 9 (in each case if available) would makes seven hires. IMO it's unlikely
