Just thought I'd write and say that around a month ago I light up 7714 for the first time since the new crank axle was fitted. Once we took it for a test run, we noticed something wrong with the valves. We set about removing these for measuring, and it seemed the vavles were upside down, so we turned them and re-fitted them.

It has now come about that one of the eccentric rods is too short, so this has been removed for lengthening.

Such is the latest on this engine I have grown very fond of lately Very Happy

I'm probably missing something here, but aren't the slide valves symmetrical?

The actual copper vavle was what needed to be turned, the valve buckle itself is symmetrical yes...sorry my explanation wasn't brilliant Very Happy

I was wondering, due to the swapping about of pannier boilers how long do 5764 and 7714 have left on their certificates? I know the spare boiler is in the shop but how long until it is needed?

I love the Panniers and it'll be great to see 7714 back. (Maybe one day the owners will be persuaded to turn 5764 out in LT maroon for a month or two. And how about 7714 in BR Green so its done all the liveries! Although, they do look great as they are!)

I'm old enough to have made a return journey over the full length of the line (Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade!) behind 5764 in a clean but faded LT Maroon livery when it first arrived on the SVR.

Here a pic of a grubby L95 (5764) on LT in 1969: http://geoff-plumb.fotopic.net/p36743912.html (taken from this collection: http://geoff-plumb.fotopic.net/c1094493.html In fact this whole site has some great pics: http://geoff-plumb.fotopic.net/).

you'd never guess that was supposed to be maroon! Its blacker than black. Wonderful photo. I'd love to see it like that as I am far too young to remember that.
