Inside the main shed on the "painting shed" road.

Can anyone give an update on the progress of this loco's overhaul? Can't wait to see it back on the line!

From what I heard at the Gala, the boiler should be nearing to being attached to the frames.

Hopefully a return to steam in pencilled in for the beginning of next year??

The boiler has been fighting back a bit lately. A few rivets at the bottom of the smokebox tubeplate refused to be caulked and have been replaced.

Work on the frames has been slowed a bit by the demands of 42968, but wheeling is not that far away - which does not mean that the job is nearly finished. Only when the mechanical bits are together and the boiler is in place can the process of assembling all the hundreds of smaller parts and plumbing start in earnest. There are still bits to be made, for example, with Lady A in the paint shop, there has been no room to get to the big bending rolls in there to roll the boiler cladding sheets. Final painting, lining if required, and varnishing are not quick jobs either. I believe the earlier part of next year is the target.

Sounds like the target may be the spring gala then. (assuming there is one?) Suppose it wouldn't really have been needed over the quieter winter period anyway, although it may have come in useful for the santa's.
And has its 10 year boiler ticket started now?
As for Lady A slowing progress, although it really has had a 1st class paint job, it is the smallest loco on the railway. It has been in there for over 9 months now and from memory, Gordon was in and out in much less time than that. Doesn't this seem to be a bit long for the size of the loco? Confused

There is no such thing as a 10 year boiler ticket - the normal insurance covers up to 7 years subject to satisfactory annual inspections with any service beyond then based on condition. Commencement depends of the date when the insurance co testing takes place.
Now that the daily service has finished Lady A will go to the Engine House on monday. It has been marooned in the paintshop until recently due to the work involved installing the wheeldrop. The paint shop was the best place to keep it pristine.

Lady A now tightly wedged betwixt the Manor and the doors on the wheeldrop road.

Update on SVR engineering http://www.svr-engineering.co.uk/news/news.html
The boiler in now back in the frames, with the following to be done:
Quote:
Work will focus on riveting up the smokebox to the boiler, all insulation and cladding to fit, and the alignment and fitting of the new chimney. The loco will then return to the main works for completion and final painting.
