What's wrong with 2857?

I heard there was vacuum brake problems yesterday (initial thought to be the stock) so this is presumable the test for the repair.

It has just been reported that 2857 has broken a spring. Is this an old one or a relatively new replacement that was fitted to deal with the spate of spring breakages in the past?

Perhaps I have got the wrong end of the stick but I thought this was a spring in the safety valve rather than a suspension spring. See 1501 post for 20th December.

Thanks, it was beyond my meagre technical knowledge to deduce that!

Anything wrong with 2857? Yesterday and today 73129 was on the Bridgnorth train when it was originally supposed to be 2857.

On the SVR Meet the Locos page, 2857 is listed as having valve problems.

I know that it is slightly off topic, but I was watching 'The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes - the Last Vampyre' yesterday morning.

There are a number of railway scenes and I was trying my best to narrow it down, not particularly successfully until the end in which it is 2857 that is hauling the train that would take them home.

Was this filmed at the SVR?, as none of the stations seemed right, although I may be mistaken (filming was in 1993, I was only 4)

In response to Kingston Flyer, 2857 spent a large part of 1992 at the G & W Rly, then some of 1993 at the E L Rly. It would therefore seem to be worth checking those 2 lines for likely stations, to match those on Sherlock Holmes.

I whizzed through to about 27m20s and recognised Toddington station, with the train approaching from the Broadway direction

2857 failed earlier today, 34027 taking over having finished its diner turn.

I'm told it's a problem with the condensing coil; website has been updated with changes for tomorrow.

I noticed a strange noise from 2857 today when I saw it at Arley, sounded like flats on a tender wheel?

Just watched my video and the noise can be heard.
