The 08s based on the SVR are the 15mph variety. (Some Southern region 08s were allowed to do 20mph - Biffo will know about these I guess!)

At work we have one and trying to get a light engine move from bletchley to wembley is proving hard. An 08 doesn't really have a place on the mainline.

Can/do/have the 08s worked passenger trains at the diesel galas?

I suppose it depends on the line limit.

I can confirm that our 08's are all 15mph, as adrian states some SR loco's were 20mph and the 09's were 27mph. Back in the good old BR days transfer of shunt loco's was not really a problem in that BR did not have to pay itself penalties if a slow moving loco got in the way of another train. The advent of 08/09 locomotives being moved round the country on the back of a lorry is a consequence of privatisation and all that came with it. I unfortunatley have rather bad memories of taking 08/09's light engine from Clapham Junction to Eastleigh Works at 15/20mph and then bringing another back. Crying or Very sad

Not as far as I know on the SVR, but they have on other railways.

We had them on top-and-tail shuttles to the Carriage Shed on the Spring Gala last year.

I mentioned it as I have heard or seen (i think) 08s doing thunderbird duites on the valley but cant recall ever having seen a timetabled 08 turn. On the steam galas there is many local turns and wondered if an 08 could/has done a kiddy/Bewdley shuttle or something at some point.

I presume 11/12/14s are the same.

As Richard said using 08's on service trains is not something we would normally do and I said watch this space regarding 08's operating during the October Diesel Gala. The Class 11 is now available for traffic and should become a regular performer at Kidderminster. The Class 14 is a totally different machine built for trip and branchline work, with a maximum speed of 40mph they were being constructed as the work they were designed for was disapearing hence why they were snapped up by the coal board and the steel industry.

Not as far as I know on the SVR, but they have on other railways.

I'm reliably informed by one of the SVR's Directors (who was browsing this forum) that D3022 once hauled a passenger service from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth and return, but this was many years ago.

So they do read the forums, then.

I am sure that they can recognise the sensible ideas and see through the c***p. You never know, one day the Old Guard may just listen to the views of the masses and catapault the Railway back to it's rightful position way ahead of the rest of the pack.

We live with positive hope.

Slight divergence to the Class 11, but it seems to have been under restoration for years, and there was a recent reference somewhere to now waiting on an operating agreement.

So is it in service and is it in black?
