How near to a return to traffic are 4566 and 46443?

well lets just say 46443 could be out for a couple of months from what i was hearing yesterday but we will have to wait and see

Shame, 46443 is a very reliable engine, and is quite popular on the footplate experience courses.

You don't maintain it. What it will pull, and what it is sensible, from the point of view of wear and tear, to ask it to pull are unlikely to be the same thing. Optimising the difference between passenger revenue and maintenance cost involves not flogging its guts out. Equally, putting 8 behind a pannier is, well, on a public forum, let's say "not advisable in the long term".

Is that the reason behind 4566 being only spare and diesel locos being used on the service trains over the last weekend, as I don't believe diesel operation was advertised?

4566 temporarily out of traffic. Diesel deputised for a steam failure (so I believe)
