Preserved diesels 21 February reports (with pictures):

Quote:
D8188 will remain based at Bridgnorth for the foreseeable future as the duty standby loco and also as the resident shunter following the failure of the Class 08 there.

Is that D3022?

Does that mean D8188 will not be withdrawn from traffic for bodyside repairs and other essential maintenance before being repainted?

Thanks

Patrick

A pity that one of those numerous class 03's that Harry Needle is selling couldn't be purchased to do the job in the 08's absense. They're going for scrap otherwise.

D3586 returned this week.

Before D3586 failed in February, D8188 was to have been withdrawn from traffic for bodyside repairs and other essential maintenance before being repainted. Any current plans?

thanks

D3586 returned Tuesday, the plan was the crew would swap over and return D8188 to Kidderminster L/E however when the service train arrived due to a problem with 4566 the 20 ended up piloting the loco for a round trip before 43106 took over meaning D8188 ended up back at BH. It was then returned to KR on Wednesday L/E where the guys that work on it will be able to do some of the mainteance required after so long in continuous service.

A correspondent writes:

D8188 will be going to Neil Boden at Washwood Heath at the end of this year for a body lift and bogie overhaul. Consequently the owners have decided to leave the repaint until this work has been done and she returns sometime early next year. The SVR will then have two nice green liveried 20's for use once she has had her repaint on her return.

Miscellany

Both D8059 and D8188 worked during the diesel gala without any problems

I believe D8188 moved stock for the Santa grottos to Arley on 13 October.

They worked in multiple on their first (and successful) driving experience course 16 October running Kidderminster to Bridgnorth return.

On a rare midweek trip to the Valley I spotted D8188 at Bewdley on 17 October, as was a drain cleaning road railer which travelled North around midday. '88 arrived at BH that afternoon and stabled in P2 overnight. She was back down the line the next day.

Bill Pizer’s photos of some recent special workings on the SVR on 2 January are on Preserved Diesels 7 January, with D8188 arriving at Highley with the 12.05 ex Arley ‘mixed goods’; D8188 at Bewdley North with the 12.45 Highley-Kidderminster ‘mixed goods’; and D8059 leaving Kidderminster with the 14.15 ‘crane’ to Bewdley.

D8059 and D8188 – Both 20s will be off to the Swanage Diesel Gala in May (wnxx website and http://www.preserved-diesels.co.uk/pdf3/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3923&p=46114#p46114)..

With the Warship there as well, the SVR will be well represented

D8188 is back at Bridgnorth as the station pilot. Mind you the shunter is in the final stages of painting back to BR green.

The repaint isn't the reason the 08 is out of action though...
