Is she running until the end of the year?

She sounded great today apart from the squeaks caused by steam leaking past the valves. Out of service date looks like Early January I was told today..

Sounded a bit off-beat leaving Arley today. Sort of 1 2 1 2, a loud beat then a quieter one, if you know what I mean.

Not really expecting it to be spot on so close to a big overhaul.

Hi Sharpo,

As you say, so close to an overhaul, I suppose it's natural for things to be slightly off.

I've just received an e-mail from one of the original organisers of the fund to buy 5164, and to answer several people who have asked on here she is owned by the 5164 Fund..

Regards

Amanda

It comes and goes, seemingly - second departure from Bridgnorth yesterday you could barely hear the second cylinder's exhaust, but the difference was only just noticeable on the first departure today, returning again for the afternoon departure. Still, she didn't seem to suffer too much for it in terms of power!

There is an excellent picture on p445 of the current issue (No.88) of Great Western Railway Journal showing no.5164 in pre-preservation days. She is working as a banker at Totnes having moved from her former haunts in the Birmingham area. On p448 there is a photo of No.4153 on KDR shed. Finally, there is a picture on p434 of No.7812 pulling in to Camborne.

5164 goes out of Service after Sunday 5th Jan.

Use over the final weekend is contemplated it seems.
If this is correct surely we should be publicising that now?

See 5643 thread. With 4936 on the diner on the Sunday before being positioned for departure, it does have the possibility of a 'last chance' weekend with 5643/4936/5164. If so, I agree it would be good to publicise it as early as possible?

I'm planning on coming down again next Saturday (4th) so hopefully 5164 will be running.. I heard a whisper the other week that because she has new sidetanks, if there are not too many boiler problems she could be overhauled fairly rapidly..

Is 5164 destined for the engine house?

Even with the additional space being created in the works I would have thought that 75069, 4930, and soon 42968 would be enough to be going on with as far as active overhauls are concerned. Is "Taw Valley" still in the main shed, or round at the boilershop awaiting its boiler?

Not my call though, someone "in the know" will tell us!
